I have children that range from 4 - 25. At my job appearance can help catapult your career or damn it. I had been feeling self-conscious about my arms which had fat and didn't allow me to fit into some of my blouses (that I'd otherwise be able to wear). In addition, my abs were hiding behind the fat underneath my skin, sit-ups weren’t helping them to be more apparent.
It is a big decision to choose to go under a scalpel, one that I didn't enter into lightly. I have kept my surgery a secret from family members as well as co-workers because of potential negative reactions.

Pros: Dr. Kane and his team are consummate caring professionals. After surgery care is just as important as the procedure itself. His team has shown genuine concern with how my healing is going. I consider them the family which I get to share this time of transition with. Dr. Kane and his wife Lauri have never led me astray and have been upfront about everything --including the fact that this surgery was not going to be the end-game. Of course, I wanted layers of fat removed; however, we were all on the same page that surgery was not going to help me keep it off.
I have a much slimmer waistline and my arms are smaller. I will have to work to get the muscle definition that I desire to wear sleeveless tops…but I have a game plan in place to get there.

Cons:
Cost: Unless you do not have to bat an eye at spending thousands for cosmetic surgery, I would recommend that you do everything that you can, naturally, to develop the eating, and exercise habits needed for the physique that you are trying to achieve. On the other hand, because you have made this expensive investment in yourself you tend to have these talks that say (I’m going to say no to the office cookies, and indulgences. I’m going to go for that 3-5 mile walk, even if my spouse will not go with me because I’ve made an investment and, I AM important.)

Recovery: The first week was the most difficult. After that, there are several unusual sensations of your nerves etc. that occur. When you are hiding the fact that you had surgery from everyone AND it is the summertime and you have to wear this compression garment, life is a little miserable. Week 2-3 you start to feel better and you want to start a new exercise routine, etc. but you can’t because you do not want to infect your open incisions with sweat and excessive tugging and pulling --so you have to wait.

If YOU choose to have a procedure, you must know what your plan will be afterwards to maintain and or get to YOUR body IDEAL. My body is still healing and the surgery is not the end game. The sedentary work lifestyle that I have still must be combatted with physical activity (walking, running, hiking, Zumba). I also must avoid my constant eating out to combat the bread, butter, sugar, and salt ingredients that have no nutritional value and that I have no control over. I have to be willing to do things without family members who choose to live the sedentary lifestyle and always have an excuse or a reason of why TODAY is not the day to take positive action.

I wish you all the best, no matter what your decision is.

Dr. Kane is very comfortable in his own skin and his demeanor is as if he has never met a stranger. He is very kind and approachable and an accomplished artist (you will see his beautiful artwork all over the office and in the lobby), but he will also be firm and shoot strait with you. If you are accustomed to traditional, stuffy, distant, and aloof doctors then, Dr. Kane's affability may throw you off balance.
