The Post-op Life - - 36 Year Old Lifelong Dieter Ready Change - Baltimore, MD
ORIGINAL POST
At 36, I can honestly say that I have tried it...
$2,200
At 36, I can honestly say that I have tried it all to lose and maintain my weight - - from Jenny Craig at 17 to Physicians Weight Loss at 33, my weight has gone up and down every couple years. In fact, myresponse to people who haven't seen me in a while is "I'm like Oprah.. You never know if you will see Big Oprah or Little Oprah". LOL
But the time has come for me to stop the rhythm of my weight.. No more highs and lows..
On 4 December 2015, I started processing for Bariatric Surgery. Since I am always enrolled in a supervised weight loss program of some type, my insurance did not make me complete a 3 or 6 month supervised program through my surgeon's office. On Tuesday 22 December 2015 my surgery was approved and I am scheduled to have Gastric Bypass surgery on 27 January 2016!!!

It will be worth it! However, as a 10yr post-op gastric bypass patient, I can say that it is easy in the beginning, and then it becomes difficult to maintain your weight loss after the 3 year mark, personally.
Regardless, it is still very much worth it. Remember not to introduce foods that set insatiable cravings for you. Such as sugary, fatty carbs (extremely processed foods with no nutriotional value). It can be hard to stop the habit if you allow yourself a "little test to see how your tummy takes it, here and there."
God bless your soul❤️

Thank you for your advice. The "taste test" after weight loss has always been a problem for me. What started as a bite or two quickly turned into a meal and then I ended up regaining all of the weight back.
After putting my body through years of unsustained weightloss, all at can do is pray that God gives me the mental strength to resist the inevitable temptation to just have "a taste". :)
Again, thank you!!

I can very much relate. I find it easier to say no to food if I just don't take that first bite. I haven't had a binge in quite a while, thanks be to God. But for a while, two years ago, I was stuck on a binge for a couple of months and also hit a depression. So much weight gain. But it's never too late to dust off, accept the fact and just keep forward.
God is amazing!!! He has been helping me greatly and He will help you too.

I am soon to be 14 years post op and you are right on how easy it is to gain back. I gained 15 lbs back but have stayed steady there for the last 5 years. It changed my life for the good and the best thing I ever did for myself.

This is sooooo true. I am 1 week in my pre op liquid with 2 more to go and damn if I don't wanna throw in the towel. This is one of the hardest things I had to do in my life.

The Nurse Practitioner that teaches the Pre-surgery Nutrition class shared with me that unless there is a medical need for a person to lose weight during the supervised diet, the 6-month plan is really to prepare the patient for the post-op dietary changes.. I am this to say don't beat yourself up if you lose minimal weight.. There would be no need for surgery if we could lose a significant amount of weight in 6 months :)
