I got my lip lift today and Ive never posted here before and I feel crappy right now so I will make it brief
I have always felt my face was "off" and had some work done over the years including a rhinoplasty and lip filler. Over the years my lip elongated and I was more and more unhappy with it . I researched a TON and found Dr Rodriguez and saw how many he did and how happy people were with him, saved my pennies and had a phone consult. He agreed my lip was too long and I made my appt for a few months away I was so nervous since I had never had surgery away from home before .
The day finally came and I had the surgery today and omg The PAIN is brutal!! I don't know why no one seems to mention that but mine started hurting while I was at the airport about 3 hrs after the surgery Its bad... Took pain pills but it is still bad.
I included some pics to show my progress since it helped me a lot to read the reviews here I'll post more as I recover Thanks!

Hey, you look great. I had this done twice and had zero pain. I felt a little pinch when Dr. Nakano numbed me,, but that was it! NEVER any pain after---did not even have to take one pain pill. I also have ZERO scar so--I LOVE MY DOCTOR. I am still very happy with my result--but---it will go down some and I loved mine more when it was still swollen--but I have to say I am very happy. It takes about 30-45 days and it will go down some. I do love your look! Sorry you had pain. Dr.. Nakano let me take one Ativan and one Valium 40 min before procedure and NO pain!

I cant believe you had no pain!! I was not prepared for this and I didn't even get my script filled for the pain meds thinking I would be fine ... WRONG!! its a deep aching and is unbearable but I'm happy for you

I had no pain during the recovery whatsoever. None. It was actually kind of freaky, waiting and wondering when the pain would hit, like perhaps it was numb. The days went on, and I kept waiting until I realized that I undoubtedly passed that point already if it were to happen at all. We were very fortunate it seems. No nerve damage done either, thankfully. That was a fear I had. Damn glad it's over though. The swollen recovery wasn't cute. Lol.

I wonder why you also had no pain...? I cant even imagine that since I was in such extreme pain . Someone said it might be the way it's performed
December 21, 2016
Yeah, it's the oddest thing considering the trauma undergone by this procedure. Right? And I should mention that I didn't take any pain meds prior nor after so that doesn't explain it. I honestly feared that perhaps the nerves were dead, lol. But it wasn't numb either. It was however ITCHY. In fact, still it itches sometimes 3 months (to this day) post-op. I believe the dissolvable stitches are to blame? I don't think they've completely dissolved, if that's possible. The itching during recovery drove me nuts! I hope yours doesn't itch, for the sake of your sanity, lol. It's a deep itch that can't be relieved.

Your results are beautiful by the way! It's going to all be worth it!

I almost would have preferred pain over the itch, lol. Thinking about it now.

Im sure the itching is really uncomfortable .. Have you tried Benadryl? I think its actually a good sign that its healing and will be temporary hopefully!! And thank you!!
December 22, 2016
I haven't. I steer clear of pharmaceutical drugs actually. I didn't take the prescribed antibitoics either. I used oil of oregano instead. It's proven effective and I can confirm that from first hand experience. Whenever it itched, I just applied pressure and kind of ran my finger along the incision mark.

Thanks! It seldom itches anymore so I am not worried. But boy oh boy, was it annoying. I will post a review at some point. Maybe today since it's my 3 month post op. I'm a procrastinator though, lol. I already put together before and afters but I'll need to take another since that was done at like the 2 month mark.

*antibiotics. Grrr. There's no edit button. Lol.

Hi there, would like to know if you just had skin removed or actual muscle? I wonder if that's the difference between your experience and hers
February 11, 2017
Yes, Dr. Nakano only did the skin and not the muscle. I do love my results. He does not go into the muscle---

I was waiting to go to him as well, I'm from out of town too. I was wondering about the pain, but it looks good. Pain is beauty

Day two ...

Slept on and off last night , woke up a few times to take pain meds . the pain is literally in every part of my face, eyes, cheeks , teeth, nose and of course lip .. I have a high pain tolerance , even had natural childbirth and this is challenging me even with the pain meds, I started the medrol today so hopefully that will help me feel less uncomfortable . As Dr R said the swelling is going up into my nose so my lip is less swollen but my nose is more so.
He did cut up the sides which makes sense to pull up the sides of lip to avoid the rabbit look I was fearful of so I think that's a lot of the swelling. I started at 1.9 mm and when he asked me to pull my lip up to where I wanted it he said its amazing because most people pull it to 1.1 which is according to him the correct ratio so that's where I am now

Who are you going to if I may ask?

I'm based in Switzerland. My surgeon is a rhinoplasty specialist who often does lip lifts in conjunction with rhinoplasties to harmonize the face. His name is Dr. Stephan Bessler, you'll find him by googling his name. His website is in English too and his practice is in Zurich. xo

Oh interesting . I have heard that rhinoplasty can cause the lip to lengthen so that makes sense. Good luck with everything!
User Avatar
December 18, 2016
It's not actually the rhinoplasty that causes the lengthening but changing the nose shape can affect the appearance of that area (e.g if the nose tip is rotated upwards). Also, the upper lip naturally lengthens with age.

I think you will have a beautiful result. very sexy. Dr R does beautiful work and he has a wonderful blog that is very informative.

I hope the pain becomes more manageable! So, did you pull your lip up to 1.1 in the consult? Or did he convincemyou to go with 1.1? Im about to set up a consult with Dr. R.
User Avatar
December 17, 2016
I pulled it up to the point where I thought it looked best and voila !! It was 1.1!! I am really happy I flew to Dr R's.. He def knows his stuff and I have no doubt I will look great in the end . Good luck with everything !

I had a lip Lift on 11/30 and I agree, it was very painful. The pain starters when I was leaving the office. The prescribed pain meds barely helped. I was able to stop taking pain meds on day 3.

You look great so far! Your swelling isn't too bad. I had a dermal skin/fat graft lip augmentation to the upper lip at the same time as the lift so I was really swollen. But, you look great at day 2.
December 18, 2016
I had ZERO pain and had it done twice. Did not even take an aspirin after. I am sorry some are having so much pain!

I know! You look fabulous! IF I were to use any other doctor I would have used Rodriguez--he does such beautiful work I would have flown to Baltimore--BUT I LOVE my Atlanta PS and he did a fabulous job for me and no pain! Smile

I have stopped the pain pills and am just taking Tylenol now which is a big improvement as I was taking the narcotics every 5 hrs . My swelling is moving up (so weird) to my eyes now and going down in my lip. Still icing and taking the steroid and antibiotics . I washed dishes and did some homework so getting back to normal slowly . Also put Saline soaked gauze on incision as per my instructions
