Had a Bad Side Effect from His Ellanse Injections
I saw Dr Wong in Dec 2018. I went in for the Dermalift and some anti wrinkle injections. When I was there he really pushed on me to get fillers also. Although I had wanted to get fillers soon I had not been planning on getting it at the time as it wasn't in my budget and I didn't know enough about Ellanse. I only ever had acid fillers before. Though he talked up about how much better they would make me look and since it was almost the new year and I was only in Singapore for a few days, I said yes. I asked him first if the downtime would be too much as I had a huge event for NYE. He said I would look fine by then.
He injected Ellanse in my cheeks as he told me he was going to. I then noticed after that it looked like he placed it almost under my eyes in the tear through part and very high on the cheeks under my eyes. He said, yeh you had some hollowness under your eyes so I placed some there. He never told me that he was going to do that and I had not agreed to that. We ONLY talked about putting filler in my cheeks. I had read before that Ellanse was not approved for or safe to use under the eyes. He assured me it was fine and that he had done it before.
After I left and flew back to Europe, I had a lot of swelling and bruising in that area. So much so that it effected my vision some with bluryness cause of how swollen it was. All this swelling and bruising lasted more than 2 weeks and on NYE I was still not presentable to be seen by anyone and stayed home. The swelling started to go down some in another, though not completely and I had persistent lumps under my eyes/upper cheeks area and redness. When the bruises finally went away I was left with this dark redness that would not go away, it looked like PIH.
After a few months the lumpiness settled though was still red and discoloured, like I got a sunburn there. Then all of a sudden the swelling came back and it looked like it did after I first got it! I told Dr. Wong again and sent him photos and told him I was going to be in Singapore so could I come in for him to look at it in person.
When I went in person for the checkup he really did not explain anything about what he thought it was or called or why it happened. I was expecting him to know a lot more about it. He only said that he had not seen that before. Then he sold me some expensive lightening cream to put on it to lighten the redness.
I used the cream for a few months until it ran out and by the end of the few months still looked the same. Then later the discolouration got even worse. I was later diagnosed by a derm of having melasma in that area, so it also triggered melsama which I didn't have before and now I need to treat that.
I wish I had said no to the fillers and did more research on Ellanse first and I wish the Dr had told me exactly where he wanted to inject and got my confirmation and consent first for that area. I don't know what caused the reaction though I never had any issues with acid fillers and I'll only get acid fillers now.
