Bad Reaction to Surprise Microdermabrasion Treatment
I went in to a reputable med spa for a medical extraction treatment. (Usually accompanied by a gentle facial.) I told the licensed esthetician that I had just started incorporating a higher strength retinol so my skin was a little bit dryer than normal. She is going to be on leave until December, so she said, “this is my gift to you,” and proceeded to conduct a microdermabrasion treatment, followed by a hyaluronic acid Skinmedica cream (which was soothing) and sunscreen. (No after care advice was given but I knew to avoid exfoliants for several days.) That night I cleansed with a gentle cleansing balm, then put on a gentle moisturizer (La Roche Posay Touleraine) which burned (bad sign)! I woke up with a very red and swollen face. I have done nothing but cleanse with a gentle cleansing balm and apply an emollient, gentle cream (Paula’s Choice CALM restoring moisturizer - and last night I slept in Cerave Healing Ointment. The pictures I am posting are from 48-hours after the appointment. It’s now 96-hours after the appointment. My face is less red and swollen, but feels uncomfortably dry and rough despite moisturizer. Any advice? I don’t have a way of directly contacting the esthetician who did this - and don’t want to get her in trouble by contacting another provider at the med spa.
