Botox caused a severe allergic reaction

ORIGINAL POST

Bad Botox

Tracy711
I went to see Dr Shah December 20th for Botox. He is not my usual botox provider. I had had botox countless times prior by a different dr without even the slightest irritation. This time I had a horrible and instantaneous reaction to what was injected. The day after the injection I went to see Dr Shah and he said it was a rare allergic reaction one that he had never seen before. It progressed into a disfiguring and painful rash. Many other symptoms arose either from the injection or the many medications given to try and treat it. It has been 15days since and things are still not back to normal. My face is ruined and what he offered me for pain and suffering was free Botox next time I came in. When I suggested further compensation after 2 weeks of intense suffering he suggested that my reaction was not caused by Botox even though the reaction was instantaneous.

I had someone private message saying she had a similar experience after getting the covid vaccine and that green and turmeric tea helped. I had never had an allergic reaction to Botox ever. The only things that had changed from when I had had botox previous was getting vaccinated in October 2021 and using a different Dr. I had asked straight away if the covid injections were a factor and was told no. I think there is a connection. The Botox even felt different when it was being injected. It burned like acid instead of the normal cool feeling. And the rash started within minutes and snowballed quickly. Within 10 days my white blood cell count spiked and was experiencing drenching night sweats. The rash was going away with the help of prednisone but in its place more than a dozen deep painful bumps came up all over my face. I think I should of gotten my money back. The dr says I must of had an infection prior to seeing him but I had no signs or symptoms. I think that possibly the vaccine changed how my immune system responded to the Botox. The dr said he had never seen such a reaction and that it was rarer than hens teeth. If that isn’t it, it makes me think something besides Botox was used this time or the needle was contaminated because I knew the instant the needle pierced my skin something was different. It’s been 18 long days and things are still not right. Going to try the tea and pray. I am curious if anyone else has had a bad reaction to Botox after getting vaccinated when it was perfectly tolerated previously.

It has been all documented that people have immune responses to filler due to viruses, infections and vaccines so it stands to reason it may be the same for Botox. Informed providers know about reactions due to the Covid vaccine which is why I was livid when mine I'd not ask me about my status when I saw her three days after getting the booster and in the midst of fighting a sinus infection. My lips swelled like crazy and fined huge lumps and I'm still suffering the consequences. I also developed large nodules around my nasolabial folds and sill have odd lumps despite to rounds of dissolver. I didn't have a reaction it's Botox but our bodies are all different.

I’m so sorry to hear that. I really hope things resolve quickly for you. I know how hard it is waiting. It’s been 20 days and I swear it feels like an eternity. I pray every morning that things will be better. If I had know that the vaccine could react badly with the Botox I would of had a allergy test done on my arm instead injecting it into my face. I would of spent a fraction of the cost and saved my face but the Drs won’t make any money selling just one unit. But honestly I would of paid full price for a patch test to have avoided this nightmare. For less than $500 my life has been turned upside down.

I had Botox for years but this last time I had a headache for 3 weeks. Went to doctors and they told me the doctor that injected me hit the bone on my forehead. I thought I would go crazy from the constant pain and not feeling well. It is 6 weeks and feeling much better and the Botox is wearing off. Did not take the wrinkles away. First time using this injector for the forehead.

Thanks for contacting the company too. That was very nice of you.

I’ve sent this link to dozens of Drs so far. Many of them have said they will share it with other Drs to try and get the word out. Some were already aware and weren’t offering Botox to those who had been vaccinated recently. Hoping Allergan/ Botox concludes their investigation quickly and contacts all of their providers. Till then I will keep sharing and encourage others to do so. https://journals.lww.com/md-journal/Fulltext/2021/12100/Sub_acute_hypersensitive_reaction_to_botulinum.11.aspx

I think that’s beautiful of you to notify numerous dr’s. Think of the many people out there who could be helped. You didn’t have to tell anyone other than your own dr. and those within your circle of friends and family. It shows your sense of global humanity. ✌️

Thank you. My life is ruined. Everyday is a struggle to hold on, still not sure I have the emotional fortitude to get through this. Death would definitely be a better option it feels. Hoping I can spare someone my same pain.

So sorry…
Would you happen to have an outlet? Someone to talk to? I hope you’re not alone. I hope one day your mind will let go of these dark repeated thoughts. Time seems to heal and we do sometimes get used to difficult changes. I hope this for you one day. Right now it’s just the pits, I bet… I wish you didn’t have to go thru this. Have you spoken to a dermatologist about a possible solution?

I went to see the original Dr countless times with no success.Dr Sachit Shah couldn’t care less. My life is ruined and he still stands firm on his no refund policy. This man cares about nothing but lining his own pocket. It’s been almost a month now and it just seems like things are getting worse. I won’t leave my house anymore and even hide from my husband. He says he will take care of me and that I never have to leave my house the rest of my life. He is amazingly supportive but honestly I don’t want to live as a prisoner in my own private hell. I really appreciate your kind words of support. I’ve come to the conclusion I can’t be helped and All I can do is try and save as many people as possible before all my strength is gone.

Botox adverse reaction a result of covid vaccine?

Tracy711
It’s been 3 weeks since I’ve had Botox. Things have still not resolved and my hopes are low that they will anytime soon. Unable to leave the house for weeks so I have had time to research and found this medical journal published December 10th 2021. Findings a correlation between a rise in adverse effects from Botox in those who had been vaccinated for covid. Many of these women like me had no previous reaction to Botox. Most Drs and Botox providers seem to be unaware of these new findings. I’m not a dr but I think it would be wise to offer a patch test maybe in the arm or leg of those who have been vaccinated before injecting the full amount into their face. I’m including the link to this in the hopes of getting this information in front of as many Drs as possible and possibly saving someone from suffering like me.

Hi, yes - i searched this on the pubmed database and sure enough the article was there as well. "Sub-acute hypersensitive reaction to botulinum toxin type A following Covid-19 vaccination" .

The article concluded: "We recommend BTA injection be administered at least 2 to 3 months after Covid-19 vaccination."

Thanks for posting this. I will be sure to broach this w Dr. Linkov when my stitches come out.
Really appreciate your post. Have you thought about taking "Corticosteroids and antihistamine"?

I recall early in the vaccination stages there were reports of patients' faces swelling from the covid-19 vaccination swelled up if they had cosmetic filler injections. Oral angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors were used to help alleviate the swelling i believe. Could you talk to your doctor about that?

I'm sorry for what you're going through. I can only imagine how difficult this is for you. I hope it resolves sooner than later for you...
January 12, 2022
Thank you for sharing this information both of you. I still have nodules on my face and dark patches on my lips as a result of receiving filler just days after getting the vaccine. How doctors and providers cannot stay on top of these types of things is beyond me. There are serious consequences as demonstrated here. Good luck with your lip lift. Dr. Linkov was my surgeon too. He's so talented and just all around an amazing person.

I contacted Allergan/Botox and they said they were unaware of this study but now that they were they would be launching a full investigation. I contacted 2 other Drs to give them the link to this medical study and findings. One said they were already aware and already weren’t offering injectables to patients who had been vaccinated. I wonder how I could of given informed consent for treatment if I wasn’t informed of the increased risks. Thank you for your feedback and I’m praying for a speedy and full recovery for you.

Ugh, I’m very sorry. It’s mind boggling drs aren’t talking to patients more about the risks particularly when more and more ppl are receiving the vax. :/

Ty; I’m getting the stitches out today. It’s hard to brush and floss and refrain from smiling. Aside from that, I barely even know I had it done. Oh, and yawning.

Yes, he’s amazing. I love what he did for me.
January 13, 2022
Thank you for taking the imitative. Amazing they were unaware. Very good point about the informed consent. Good luck with your recovery. Keep us posted. Thanks for the kind words.

The yawning is the worst! And sneezing. Thank gawd for masks right? Good luck! I'm going to get laser treatment on my scar today. Mine is bad. :( You'll be so happy when stitches are out. Stay liberal with the Aquaphor. I'd start scar gel at the one month mark and don't massage. It can make things worse.

Keep up posted on your lazer treatment. I rooting for ya!!
January 15, 2022
Yes Tracy what is the latest on your condition? And cycleoflife how are things going after having stitches out? I had the laser treatment on Thursday and it's much more intense than I thought it would be. Lots more bleeding and crusting and basically damage inflicted to the area then I envisioned. No pain. But Lordy how did people do any of this before masks? I will not be ready to be seen in public for at least a week, maybe more but then I'll depend on cover up. Should have an idea of longer term improvement by the four week mark. Fingers crossed.
January 15, 2022
Im struggling, I’m trying to tell myself it’s better than yesterday but it feels like a lie. Im talking to a different dr tomorrow, hopefully he can help. I’ve had full ablation laser before and it heals quickly, I was comfortable going in public after 10 days. With just a little pinkness that was easily covered. And 100% healed in less than a month. Apply the aquaphor often but not too thick to avoid acne breakouts. Best of luck, I’m certain you will happy with the results
January 16, 2022
Hi! What I the new doctor say? Fingers crossed he can help. Thanks or the feedback on the laser. Since this was for a scar they went pretty deep so it's literally still crusting over. I'm definitely keeping up with Aquaphor and Biafine. I would consider the whole face. Did you feel it was worth it?

I’ve been thinking about lazer too. My skin is thick but the actual surface is textured: pores, etc.

I always wear sunscreen, us big UV hats, and eat foods high in antioxidants and drink green tea and it has helped w fine lines. But I don’t know why my skin surface is the way it is. I avow I don’t spend much time or money on skin products. I just wash w Cerve moisturize face soap and most of the time I just go to bed without using creams, etc.

I was happy with the results. I wish it was more affordable. $7000 a session. I wish it had tightened the skin on my eyes more but it got rid of so many lines around my mouth. It lessened the acne scars and made my skin tone even. I would go in again if I could.
This new dr today didn’t want to treat bcz it was out of his comfort zone. He referred me to a different dr on the 21st.Hopefully she knows.
