Back Lift and Lipo - One Year After Tummy Tuck

WORTH IT
Back with Dr. Reynolds for another surgery, this time to take care of loose skin in the low back and some lipo of the roll that was bothering me above my belt in the back (especially since my front side is nice and flat going into the pants.

As assured by Dr. Reynolds, the pain coming out of anesthesia was nothing like the pain after tummy tuck. I was given more pain meds prior to waking up that took the edge off. It's a surface bruising type of pain, and none of the "stabbed with burning rebar" pain of tummy tuck. I was able to walk in the surgery center and get myself into the car without problems. Moved delicately for a few hours but about 4 hrs post up was walking laps of the house and doing gentle squats to get wiggles out (and prevent clots).

We did the first operation at Dr. Lane Smith's new center on Sahara and that was brand new, bright and very quiet facility. This was at Specialty Surgery Center on Tenaya, and it's an older, larger facility that was busier but the nurses were friendly and talkative.

Sleeping the first night was not that bad, flanks only stung during movement. Slept on my belly mostly, and a little on my side. Only 3 ibuprofen during the day and two Norco 5mg in the evening when fatigue hits. The post-op instructions said I could drive within 24 hours and I did come in to work [office job, self employed] after lunch to catch up on email and customer tasks without appointments. Just gentle on sitting/standing and slightly limpy/hunched when walking.

Worked a full day with only a couple of appointments on Day 2. Slow but bearable. I was worried about some persistent fluid weeping at a seam and possible separation of about an inch of the seam on my hip but the Dr's office reviewed my pictures and said it wasn't a concern. Normal healing when there is no tube.

Day 3 went to a car show, then washed a car with a son's help, did some shopping and out for dinner for pho/BBQ. Day 4 was quiet Sunday mostly around the house, just left for Church.

Today is day 5 and had my first post op. Everything is healing fine. The bruising looks worse than it feels and the hematoma spreads oddly to other areas that were not operated on, such as the lower elastic of the binder garment.

Observations: weeping has continued from one or two points on each hip. Started day 3 and was worst days 3-5. Still dripping a little from one part. I suppose it's a side effect of not having drains in.

Bruising got worst about days 4-5. Fascinating how long it took to get to the skin surface.

Day 8 now. Still sore later in the day, I've only been taking two dose of meds a day (in the evening). Weight is up over 9lbs from pre-op,! Carrying a lot of fluid.

Having to wear some old 36" pants to fit over the swelling and binder garment rather than the 32" slim I've been wearing. Wearing a belt hurts a bit. Working back closer to my normal 10-11hr schedule again.

Day 10

Swelling settling down a little more. Able to fit a stretch 32" pant now, although it's tight and is sore by the end of the day.
Still weeping fluid from one spot on each hip, right by the hip bone (the tightest part of the skin). Not infected though and doctor confirmed on day 12 it's still okay. Just need to care for it longer.

Thank you! This was only about 10% of the pain of tummy tuck, but it is still tiring. I have days where I just feel exhausted and tender by the end of the afternoon.
