Devastating facelift - continued left facial pain and left pinna pain

CONTINUED LEFT FACIAL PAIN AND LEFT PINNA PAIN - surgery by Robert Guyette, M.D.

$52,000
On 7 April 2016, I was informed my insurance, United Health Care, will not cover the neuromodulator for my atypical facial pain. There was a peer to peer review by my neurosurgeon, Dr. Ponce at Barrow Neurologic and whomever they have at United Health Care. There are medical trials showing that in fact, the procedure is usually 100% effective in relieving the pain. Unfortunate. Obamacare...thanks for that. And, UHC. Not so much. And Robert Guyette, M.D.? You are not qualified to perform facial plastic surgery. You are not board certified in facial plastic surgery. It was my mistake to go to you, even though my physician sister recommended you. I should have done my own homework.

I have written to various government clinical trials and have not heard back. I believe my goose is cooked so to speak.

Be sure to get your B12 levels checked, as deficiency can exacerbate the nerve issues and prevent healing.
Specifically, you could need methylcobalamin. This is the broken down form of B12. Sometimes people who take antacids or have gut issues can't break down B12 from food, so the become deficient. This wreaked havoc on nerve health. Maybe you could get a little relief with supplementation?
I will check. I do take B supplements. Can u buy methocobalamin?
Yes, there are some good ones on Amazon. I also have been using a certain brand for my own issues, and it's working well for me, so I've decided to sell it myself. Message me with your email and I'll send you some documentation from research I've done as well as the info on the product I take.
Anon, what is the B12 you are using for nerve pain? I am starting to develop pain from my facelift. Its scary reading this review since it took so long for ChiefWahoo to find out she had a neuroma. I've been taking hemp oil to help with the pain, hoping I don't have to take any pharmaceuticals.
ChiefWahoo, are you still on here? If so, I hope you found some relief. Praying for you.
Hello
This is nightmare of nightmares I'm so sorry for your pain. Is there not some way you can claim from this named Doctor to compensate you for all your lost work and the horrendous expenses you have gathered?

This is awful
Any surgery carries risk. We accept it when we go under the knife. A doctor will minimize remedial work to reduce pain and suffering, and minimal invasiveness to the patient. I am not seeing clear-cut evidence of bona fide negligence. I had a massive hematoma after a breast reduction and no feeling on the side of my face after a face lift. I woke up during a general and a crappy nose job. These are risks I assumed and over time righted themselves. If you want to litigate turn it over to your lawyer and let him/her handle it. Your concern is your own health and healing.

Dr. Guyette and resultant poor rhytidectomy update

Damage to the auriculotemporal nerve during the rhytidectomy has also shown a shrunken and fatty parotid gland on MRI.
The tinnitus caused by my ears not being protected during a 3T MRI and no panic bulb to notify the tech is still of great issue, too.
I am attempting to enter into a clinical trial involving lidocaine infusion for chronic pain.
My trial with the neuromodulator is scheduled for the end of April 2016.

I've been too busy to read very carefully, but had to at least skim over these posts. I am horrified this happened to you. Is it possible that you've developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome? Sounds like what I have in my right hand/wrist.

I had a lower face lift and fat grafting done in Dec by an extremely reputable surgeon who does only facial, and I, too, am appalled at the outcome. By week 3 post-surgery I was looking almost "perfect" (at least as good as I expected it to by), but after that things began going downhill steadily. Now I look worse than before the surgery. Different, yes, but not better.

I chose this surgeon because his website was so awesome and he had good reviews. He did cost more than the average, which I was told upfront. But... we (DH & I) agreed to spend the extra and travel a ways just to get the best possible, since with our income this will be my one and only chance. The reason I wanted it was b/c due to illness, drastic weight loss and eventual tooth and jaw bone deterioration, my face had practically collapsed on itself and it simply looked terrible. All that happening within such a short period of time made it all the harder to deal with.

But now? I just don't know! Why would you or me or anyone anticipate that such surgeons could possibly mess up so badly? I understand about it being next to impossible to sue them for malpractice, too. People talk about how bad the "thin blue line" is with cops, but it's nothing compared to how doctors stick together.

So, I'm sorry you're going through so much, and most of all about the pain. Injury to insult to more injury. Blessings and peace.
Yes Probably something akin to CRPS. It really is horrifically painful. I am sorry for your trials and tribulations also.
Is there Not 1 lawyer who could take your case? I am very surprised that you could NOT sue. My God, what kind of judicial system do we have? So very sorry for all your pain and suffering. Gumboangie
I thought I'd posted to you about this already, but now don't see it. My question was: Has a doctor ever mentioned "RSD" or "CRPS" (complex regional pain syndrome)? I developed it in my right hand, arm & shoulder after the surgeon doing a carpal tunnel release jabbed a nerve with a needle. The pain you're describing sounds the same. May God bless & keep you through this rotten ordeal. Many people here empathize deeply with you.
This Dr should face malpractice and lose his license
It should be a malpractice case and he should owe for all her pain and suffering, emotional damages, and lost work and opportunities.
I agree. She should sue

Of note, my expenses to date are approximately 60K to attempt to alleviate/get some pain relief from the truly bad facelift from Dr. Guyette.
Truly I feel so bad for you. But thanks for you time & post. We all need to know that this kind of surgery is still a "Big" deal. It's not just a walk in the park as they say. And that's not even including the money issue.
I am surprised that insurance won't cover all these medical expenses as these are medical and not cosmetic problems. There is always the possibility of damaging the facial nerves when undergoing facial surgery. I think we just don't want to think it will happen to us.
So sorry you're going through this misery.
I'm so happy to learn that not every facelift works out. This gives me pause to really rethink what I am doing. Just to not look my real age.
Thanks for being strong enough to let all of us know the problems that can occur.
What an honest & forthright comment ... so very true.
I had to go out of network for the neck peripheral nerve surgery that was 28K plus associated travel costs. As you know, healthcare costs mount quickly paying deductibles, medications, and no-covered treatments, i.e., massage therapy.
The nerve damage was not motor in nature.
please keep us all posted I hope everything' goes well
God take care if you, He should give you every cent back and pick up all the doctor bills after. Amazing how they let this man stay in practice. You lay back before you have a heart attack and read all about which doctor can help you best with the aftermath of this surgery. I am so sorry and hope you and your husband stick together and help each other.
Thanks for posting this review. Im feeling very sad that this happened to you. I am 48 and had my face permanently scarred from radiofrequency treatment that was supposed to be harmless and no posibilty of damage, yet I am maimed for life. Other plastic surgeons either say to get a face lift or that there is nothing they can do. Im so sorry this happened to you at such a young age. I hope you find some relief or a vicious malpractice attorney who will take the case. Good luck to you:-)
