I have had an issue with my nose for as long as I can remember. My nose was always the one thing I would look at in photos of myself and I was never happy with it. Rhinoplasty was always something I thought about and it was last year that I seriously started researching the procedure.
Going overseas for surgery was never an option for me as having an operation to change the appearance of my face was daunting, I knew that finding the right surgeon to do the procedure was by far the most important part of my decision. I knew I wanted an experienced and highly qualified plastic surgeon and not just a cosmetic surgeon.
I did a lot of research into Perth plastic surgeons and read a lot of other patient’s experiences and booked consultations with two surgeons who had good reputations and positive patient feedback. My second consultation was with Dr Vijayasekaran and I knew straight away that I wanted him to do my procedure.
Dr Vijayasekaran asked me to explain to him in the consultation what it was about my nose that I didn’t like. The problem I had with my nose wasn’t the bridge but was the tip; to me it was too rounded and bulbous at the end. To me my nose was also too big for my face and drew too much attention away from my other features as well as being slightly a-symmetric and not completely straight.
I felt Dr Vijayasekaran completely understood what I was hoping to achieve from the procedure and he explained that a tip open rhinoplasty would give me the result I was looking for.
I felt really comfortable in the consultation as Dr Vijayasekaran is very professional but also personable. Dr Vijayasekaran’s secretaries Lydia and Kate were also both so lovely and made me feel so relaxed throughout the whole process.
I wasn’t overly nervous leading up to the surgery just excited to finally have the procedure because I completely trusted Dr Vijayasekaran and his ability. I also knew that he would not have taken me on as one of his patients if he did not believe he could make a significant improvement to the appearance of my nose.
On the day of my surgery Dr Vijayasekaran came to see me while I was waiting in the hospital holding bay before the procedure, he is always so upbeat and friendly it put my nerves at ease. After surgery Dr Vijayasekaran came to see me when I was waking up from the anaesthetic and he came to visit again a few hours later when I had retuned to my hospital room. He assured me everything had gone really well and he was happy with the result.
I had the option to stay overnight in hospital or to leave that evening. I chose to go home as I wasn’t in any pain and I wasn’t that uncomfortable. I didn’t feel nauseous at all and I was able to eat the lunch the nurse brought me I just felt a bit sleepy after the anaesthetic.
The recovery for me wasn’t that uncomfortable and I wasn’t in any pain the only thing I struggled with was being stuck at home for the week. Towards the end of the week however I was going to the supermarket and out for coffee with friends and while I did feel a bit conscious of the cast and tape on my face no one else seemed to care. The cast and the sutures were removed one week after my operation. I was nervous at first to see my new nose but despite it looking a bit swollen within an hour of the cast being removed I knew I had made the right decision.
My nose now is completely proportionate and my face now appears a lot softer. My new nose has made a positive change to my face, I still look like myself and it still looks like my nose just a better and more delicate version. Everything I didn’t like about my nose before has now completely gone.
Dr Vijayasekaran said there was a lot of residual swelling that would take a few months to subside completely however the swelling is not at all visible to any one else and I returned to work a week and a half after my surgery. It has almost been a month since my surgery and my nose looks better and better every week as everything continues to settle and heal.
I am amazed with the result and I could not be happier. It is the best feeling having made such a big improvement to something I was self conscious about before. I can’t believe the thing I didn’t like about my face is now something that I love.
