ORIGINAL POST

Hi all, the procedure was quick, day 1 was good,...

Hi all, the procedure was quick, day 1 was good, day 2-started to vomit, day 3 today is horrible!!! I have been vomiting all day, can't sleep, but so tired, can't keep water down.. I m starting to doubt what I did to myself, very worried as I need to start a new job in 5 days... thanks to these posts, I got an Icy pole and held that down. Someone who has had it done, please give me hope that I didn't just majorly stuff up? Will this go away? I can't start a new job like this and seriously contemplating to get it taken out.

Thanks for sharing your story. I hope you'll find support within the community.

It will be horrible the 1st week but it gets better. Don't give up now. You didnt stuff up! Unless you are well over 200 lbs, weight loss is slow but gradual. I'm only on week 2 but stick to 3 small meals and no junk food snacking. Take food to work and slow sips of water helps. Keep in touch!
Thanks so much, were you able to work? I feel so lethargic.
I took abt 3 days off and all I did was laze around the house worrying I was going to throw up. I'm back at work now and it's pretty normal. I wake up wanting to throw up but it's just dry heaves. For the lethargy I recommend sips of Ribena. Nothing overly sweet but it helps give you energy. And since you aren't eating it balances out yr calorie intake.
Ok thanks, I also find the nights are the worst. Hard to get a good nights sleep because of the cramps. Well, I have been home the whole week, and can't even imagine going to work on Monday. Thanks for your support!
Don't worry abt it, all in this together. Just have all yr nausea meds with you on Mon and all yr prepared water and food. Yes it still takes some getting used to - especially if you sleep on the wrong side. I tried going out for lunch and because I was thirsty and had some water I couldn't eat my meal. Was just weird taking away 95% of my salad.
Oh wow. Well I am day 6 today and sooooo much better!! Finally I can do both drink and eat and finally feel energy went walking today and cleaned the house. Don't feel much nausea at the moment and slept a full night last night... but I do find the appetite has returned... I am able to hold a lot of fluids down actually. Like 750ml is ok. Sipping slowly. And may be I can even eat something on top of it too. Like this morning I had a cup of coffee and 1 boiled egg and some white cheese with 1 raw tomato. And felt full but no cramps or nausea. Is that too much?
So glad you are feeling better and how productive youve been! Appetite returning is fine. The advice my dietitian gave me was have 6 small meals a day. My Dr disagreed and said the point of the OBERA is to lose the weight so have 3 main meals and enough water, 1 fruit a day. I agreed with him so have stuck to 3 meals a day.

I typically have a small bowl of creamy oats, no sugar low fat milk and water mixed for breakfast, grilled chicken (about 60 to 80 grams) and steamed veg for lunch, and dinner its tofu soup or veg and beef soup. And repeat.

If Im able I try and have a mug of tea - just low fat milk in mine as I dont like sweet tea. I mostly forget my water but try because it helps with weight loss!

What you had for breakfast seems fine, so long as you dont feel the food just sitting at the back of your throat - like I felt yesterday when I had lunch. Its a weird adjustment, trying to understand the limits of the belly now!
Thanks again. So helpful!!! Glad I had this community to get me through cos seriously I felt horrible all week. When I got your post, it relaxed me so much, cos I was like thinking of removing this balloon. Hopefully will be alright for work tomorrow too:) yeah that seems good, your food. Have you lost much?
Don't remove the balloon - it would just be all for nothing then and think of the money spent :-( plus its only week 2 for me and 1 for you. Another 5 1/2 months to go!

I haven't checked my weight since the week 1 weigh in where I lost about 4lbs and don't want to demotivate myself considering the feedback Dr gave me i.e. the smaller you are the slower it is to lose the weight unless you are back to working out. I start with my trainer next week so hoping that will help a lot. Ideally though you should be able to lose about 2 lbs a week if you are strict with food and water.
But Ive noticed my belly seems less pouchy and thighs too.

Lets keep track of one another and obsess over that goal outfit (Ive already bought!) we will wear and ppl we will stun - ha!
No no I won't remove now... But I did think it until I saw your post back on day 4, when I thought I was gonna die. Done for tracking! I need someone to keep track with. Yeah this week alone I lost 2kg. I am gonna start some exercise this week too. Yeah I only have 10kg to lose, but not 10kg of water, 10kg of fat-which s a lot harder... cos the first weight you lose is just water. How much do you have to lose?
Haha Im glad I prevented "your death" then! Congrats on the 2kgs! Thats just 8kgs to go though I think you may surpass 10 if you keep up the same meal regiment and workout as ballon is in for 6 months tho Im sure you can take it out sooner if you are good with goal weight.

I'm 20kgs over my usual weight of 58kgs. I want to lose the 20 and stick to it as am fed up of yo-yo ing but work stress, snacking and long hours contributed to that. Now in a better place and less insane job and more clear headed!
No but my first 2 don't count cos that's just water. Fat takes a lot longer to go. So as far as I am concerned I am 10 kg over still. Will see what happens! Yeah me too I am the same always a yo yo, with weight, Crazy jobs, long hours, all that... I so badly want to retrain my mind too so when the balloon is out, I just have to continue & don't lapse back. Will see though! Keep me updated!!! You did prevent me from balloon removal! Lol
Big hugs. We will make it! Just be positive and stay away from temptations when stressed. Luckily I don't drink so no calories there so fyi if you were considering going out for drinks with colleagues after work Fri.

The other thing is get a trainer, Im arse lazy with weights, I'm a cardio person since its easy but having someone push is great for motivation and also checking on yr eating habits. All is NOT lost tho. Once you are there, reward yourself with something great or a cheat day every 2 weeks. Will keep you updated! Talk soon.
Gosh you are not wrong it's slow. The weight loss. I am on week 2 now and I am eating a lot in comparison to week 1. Nausea is gone and cramps are gone. But yeah other than the original weight loss from not eating for a week- which would have all been water-nothing else so far. You?
Ha I doubt it's a lot. Seems so because you full really full fast. I'm probably only going to weigh myself in 2 weeks. Make it a month to see progress. Breakfast was the milk the dietician gave me. I have very little protein and steamed veg at lunch. Then dinner was clear chicken soup and veg w a side of orange. I'm mulling over just sticking to Slim Fast like the rest on here.
Yeah this seems like the old calorie counting stuff. But isn't this supposed to be easier? My stomach must be huge, cos even with this balloon inside, I m able to eat a normal meal, like a small bowl of soup , a handful of tinned tuna & a handful of lentils and water. And I am ok.. so I don't know what it means. But definitely no weight loss yet for me, other than those initial 2kg
None for me yet either and I'm sticking to my meal plan and calorie counting. Have been out for lunch but I drink water prior and like previously take away the rest. I just had dinner, a lil ground beef burger and steamed cauliflower.

Haha no yr belly isn't huge. Just fill up with water. It won't help with hunger but less food goes in.

I usually get really hungry after 11 (I eat at 6 daily) so I have some fruit or tea. I refuse to be demotivated tho after the expense and it only being 3 weeks despite seeing others here losing easily :-(
Yeah I am sticking to small meals and eating about 700-900 cal per day.. yeah I am drinking more water too, like you suggested, yeah and I love the attitude.! No demotivation.! I have started with my trainer this week and also with my own gym. Let's wait more and see what happens. May be the others lose easily because they are bigger to start with?
Yes that's what the DR said. Anyone more than 200 lbs lose faster. But you know you build up this rapid weight loss in yr head and start watching everything like a hawk.

Re calories - get the My Fitness Pal calorie app. And stick to not more than 650 per day.

Good re trainer and working out. I do cardio 4/5 days a week - just threadmill or elliptical and then my trainer comes by for weight training on the weekend.

Yes let's wait and see and keep motivated! I saw a few interesting diets some follow beyond calorie counting so may go with that.
How is your progress?
:-( I see small changes and am sticking to only 600 calorie meals but progress is super slow! Not sure what else I can do. Isn't it ironic that despite being 45 lbs over my ideal weight, that's not heavy enough to see quick weight loss!

How are you doing?
I have finally seen progress but same as you it's really slow! But I tried on a skirt I bought in December and it was lose. So I must be losing slowly. It's almost unnoticeable. I think I m having 800-900 daily. I think we just have to keep going.
Well at least you see that in the skirt! Thankfully! My jeans seem loose but that's all it is. Mhmm I know re keep going but it's so exhausting always worrying abt what goes in my mouth. I'd love to staple it shut! :-/
Same. So I am a doctor. I don't think I told you that. It takes 6 weeks for the fat cells to shrink and for you to see weight loss... but it's actually happening all the time! Just you can't see it until after 6 weeks. So just keep going. If your skirt is loose that's actually the best way to tell! Not the scales. The best is actually clothing. So we are both on the way. Soooo slow. And I have been slack with food last 2 days. Get me back on track!
DR? Nope you didn't and now I shall happily take freebie advice and ask loads of questions just because I can!

Good to know abt the 6 weeks, didn't know that but I'm on a time line so body better get in shape before then!

Argh! No straying! Totally not worth it. How are you slacking? Rubbish food or just not eating calorie amount?

Today I had sliced papaya for breakfast and black tea, grilled chicken burger and steamed beans for lunch, dinner was tofu and cauliflower soup. Orange as dessert.

I feel like heaving w the amount of water I'm drinking. I've gone out and bought 3, 6 litre bottles. 2 litres minimum a day seems impossible.

And you've only 10 kg to lose! Its a dream number vs my heffer 20kg! You can do it!
Of course go for it. Any questions you like... and yep I m an MD:) your food is clean. How many calories/day? I was bad fora day or two, I do like these 15 hour shifts In the hospital, sometimes no time to prep food:( i drink 1.5 L per day I d say. Yeah but I think your rate of weight losss sounds reasonable. I have no idea how people lose 15 kg here
Hey there, I'm booked in to have the procedure next Thursday and have to attend a conference in Canberra on the Sunday - after reading your comments, I'm not sure I'm up for it now :( I'm also interested where you had your procedure done and was the cost on $3000?
Hi:) are you in melbourne? I had it done all the way in ballarat. I think you ll be just ok on Sunday! Just... because day 3 for me was the worst. Day 4 I was just the first day without vomiting. Can you give yourself 5 days? Is the conference really important? I am in the medical field so I paid a little less. But that seems to be the price depending also on your health insurance coverage.
Hi, just wondering how everyone is going. I'm 3 mths in, constantly nauseous, regularly vomiting, no energy and have lost 15kg. However no quality of life.
Wow that's amazing. I have no nausea and vomiting and have lost may be 2 kg after a month in
And wow back ... Just goes to show how very different we all are!!! May I ask if you are taking daily medications....
Hi:))) no I only took them for the first 10 days my first 4 days were terrible, then I forgot all about the balloon. I think my stomach is big, and the balloon is 600ml, and my stomach is quite big, according to the surgeon when he inserted the balloon, so I am Able to fit more food in than you. Also if you stomach is small but balloon has 600 that would explain the nausea and the weight loss. How much do you have in your balloon? At the end of the day it's all about how much you are eating a day.. how many calories are you consuming?
My tummy is so sensitive ATM, trying to get the protein in regularly through out the day and chewing slowly, lucky to get 500 calories. Nothing was said about my stomach being small or the actual size of balloon :( ginger and peppermint teas kinda help, really had enough feeling like this ...
Yeah poor thing, so what medications are you on?
I was booked in to have the ballon but cancelled as I just felt I was not confident that once the ballon was out I would go back to old habits and waste my money. $6500 quoted
I thought I would investigate the lap band as that may be more permanent ? Has anyone here had any experience with lap band ?
