about a year ago I had my full set of braces removed, and like most people who have had braces, my teeth were very, very, VERY yellow. I scheduled my appointment and was expecting sensitivity from the "zingers".....first off, i have a fairly high pain tolerance. I do not cry from physical pain that often, but god damn....this is worse than breaking bones. the equipment is uncomfortable but nothing that the normal person could not handle. I had four 15 minute bleaching cycles, and at the 2 cycle I started feeling those wonderful little zingers. oh did I say wonderful? I meant ABSOULUTLY EXCRUCIATING NERVE PAIN!! I told my hygienist about the sensitivity and she reccomended leaving the bleach off of the tooth that was bothering me. okay now 3rd session...it gets worse, but the pain comes and goes quickly. now it's the 4 session and I feel my teeth popping. it felt like someone was electrocuting my teeth! I jolted out of my chair and pushed the light away about 13 minutes into the last cycle. now, my teeth are FOR SURE whiter, but 3 hours after, I am now in excruciating pain. the zingers are WAY worse now! they're extremely Intense and after 800mg of naproxen sodium it's still not better!!!! DO NOT GET THE ZOOM! WHITENING TREATMENT UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY $600 OUT OF POCKET FOR SEVERE PAIN!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing your honest review. Are you still in pain now?

I took 800mg of aleve with 400mg of naproxen sodium plus a sleep aid. I have not had a zinger since 2 am today, but my gums are inflamed and are hurting. I am currently doing a salt water rinse so that should help.

Hi Ashley did your teeth calm down eventually? If so how long did it take?

oh i'm so sorry to hear you had such a bad reaction :( I've been considering zoom whitening but I have fairly sensitive teeth and I think theres a good chance I would have the same unbearable pain. But on the plus side, your teeth do look great :D

$600 is very high

I recently did it and took painkillers prior to the treatment which I think helped a ton during and after. I also took them afterward. I had a few zingers that were unpleasant but not unbearable. I don't think I would have been able to handle it without the drugs before and after.

Omg I had the same EXCRUCIATING pains too! Had zoom (groupon $80) in April for my wedding. I made it through all 4 rounds and omg for the next 36 hours I felt like someone was shocking my teeth 3-4x a minute. Like the worst. Don't do it.

Ugh this is so scary because I'm still really thinking about doing it! My dentist offers it and he thinks I'm a good candidate. Would you recommend even maybe trying 1-2 treatments?

You will get the SAME results from white strips. The zoom is just quicker. Upon first view of completing zoom your teeth will look REALLY white. But with 48 hours-72 hours your teeth tubules or whatever they are called and they will not be bleach white. SO if your getting married (my scenario) or photos, it may be worth it. Otherwise save your $ and agony - go w/ white strips :)

I do it about every year and a half. For me the pain comes hours later, my dentist always gives me a prescription for Vicodin. It's worth the discomfort for a white smile
