Me: 30+ years of low body image and survivor of years of anorexia. After overcoming my eating disorder, I gained a lot of weight and couldn't drop it (except when I had a couple of relapses back to anorexia). I worked out legitimately well - 5x a week - and also ate generally healthyish except I still tend to under eat. Something finally clicked in my head and I decided to pursue liposuction as it had always been a pipe dream for me. My goal was to have my clothes fit better, feel better about wearing fitted clothes, okay taking pictures of myself, and hopefully look a little better naked.
Exposition: I have highly functioning anxiety so I researched and researched and reasearched some more. After considering coolsculpting, laser lipo (the non surgical kind), and a tummy tuck I decided on traditional liposuction (laser assisted). Let's be real; I need a tummy tuck if I want a flatter stomach. I don't have the time or support system right now so decided to get liposuction.
The search: Thanks to this website, I found Dr. Ven Erella and hallelujah! I had tried getting a consultation from another doctor but immediately felt 1000% comfortable after meeting Dr. Erella. He was thorough, thoughtful, realistic, and at no point did I feel like he was trying to sell me on anything. (Do yourself a favor and make sure to get someone with great credentials AND makes you feel comfortable with a good bedside manner. If they promise you the world without making sure you have realistic expectations, run. Dr. Erella even said it's more important to research the experience others have with a certain doctor/facility than pictures because every body is different. I'll admit I liked looking at the photo results too).
The Procedure: Thanks to the pre-op Xanax, I don't remember everything about that day. The procedure itself was so pain free that I fell asleep at one point. It was done in office and under general. The recovery is more painful than the actual lipo. I ended up getting Six areas done: upper abs, lower abs, flanks, hips, sacrum, and inner thighs.
Recovery: I only took the pain meds for the first two days. I was mobile starting from when I got up from the operating table. I slept quite a bit the first two days and then only needed Tylenol after that here and there. The pain was at its worst for about the first two weeks but still would only rate it at a 5/10. When staying still, I had no pain. After about week four, I was essentially pain free. (I had been getting back out there lifting heavy things, walking, sweating, and doing all my normal daily activities except going to the gym the entire time).
Results: I only regret not doing this sooner. I'm so pleased with my results. My clothes fit so much better and I'm actually excited to wear fitted clothes again. I could see results starting from day one but with the swelling, the most notable started at about 2.5 weeks post op. Yes, I wore my compression garment as recommended for the first six weeks.
TLDR: do it! If you're in Austin, TX I highly recommend Dr. Erella with Aspira Plastic Surgery.
