4 Days Post Op - Feeling Good!

Had surgery on Jan. 19th had some small complications with fever due to phlebitis in my IV site. Had to stay another night in hospital for antibiotics. Came home Thurs. evening. Had hardly any pain in stomach. Was able to get in and out of bed with no problem. Today I have started having pains, or cramps, kinda like hunger pains. They last about 15-20 seconds but I have had them all day. Anyone else have these? Are they just healing pains? How long they last? I am still on liquids such as shakes, water, juice, and popsicles.

I had Lapband surgery in 2010- was very disappointed with it. Never worked only when restriction was so tight that I couldn't eat for days and lost 20 lbs. - that combined with 20 lbs I had to lose before surgery. Total lost 40 lbs. in 5 years. And I had no fluid in band last year and a half. Had issues with restriction and blood pressure so Doctor removed it in October I was so hoping for reversal all in one day but dr said I had too much scar tissue. Needed 3 mo to heal. That puts me at January 19 th for having gastric sleeve done. Am so excited to get this done! I worked so hard with the Lapband that I 'm praying that the sleeve will let me accomplish my goal. Not worried about following diet - just worried that I'm going to do another surgery and risk failure again. Hope I'm doing the right thing this time by choosing the sleeve.

I had my band in 2011, lost 64 lbs and then it slipped and I couldn't even drink water. Had it taken out in October and my sleeve surgery is scheduled for Jan 18th. So we are pretty much on the same timeline. I really believe the sleeve will give much better results for us. Let me know how you are doing with your surgery. Lots of luck to you!
Thank you raindog! Good luck to you also. Are you excited about doing this?? I am so ready. Your surgeon didn't want to do the reversal all at once either? Maybe it's a good thing waiting to heal. I hope recovery is fast and not so painful for us. I meet with my dr on January 13th. You? I will be following you. Keep in touch.
I'm sorry you've had so many problems. I hope the sleeve works better for you. I'm having my sleeve surgery Jan 8th, we can follow each other's progress. FYI My doctor said that 50% of gastric band patients ultimately end up having it removed.
Good luck with your surgery on the 8th. Did you also have the band or just heard the statistics so you were able to choose? My surgeon also told me that he has done about 80% reversals so far. I was afraid to have mine removed so I tried to use it - but I had no fluid and so much restriction and vomited all the time. Finally took it out but since October 28th my weight has just been going up and up. I can't wait to get this sleeve! Keep me posted with your progress. I'm about a week behind you.
No I didn't have the band. I've had some friends who have gained all the weight back and still throws up a lot. I decided that's not for me. I'm going to try to blog every day, if you want to folklore me.
Darn spell ck that should say follow me. Lol
I will follow you. Good luck! We've got this!
After he told me I had to wait 3 months I went on youtube and watched a removal of a band. Then I could understand why I had to wait - the stomach where the band had been looked pretty bad so I could see that it would require healing.
I see my Dr. for my preop on January 6th and the surgery is the 18th. I am a little nervous but he is rated a Gold Standard surgeon and so I feel I am in good hands. The problems with the bands are not the surgeon's faults, I think it just is a bad idea to put foreign objects in our bodies. I certainly hope you have great success and will look forward to hearing from you on our mutual journey. May we both succeed this time!
Raindog, do you have a special diet your following right now? I'm reading all these diets everyone is doing prior to surgery and wondering if I should be doing them. Very curious.
I am doing liquids (water, sf jello, sf popsicles, broths, etc) for two weeks to shrink my liver - they tell me that it has to be done so that it will be out of the way for the surgeon so he doesn't damage it during surgery. Did your doctor give you any diet plans for pre-surgery? I read a lot of complaints about the liquid diet, but I just tell myself that I am helping make the surgeon's job easier. Two weeks is really not that long in the scheme of things. Try to keep yourself busy doing other things so you don't think about not being able to eat. (I am cleaning house and getting taxes ready.) :(
I ended up calling last Friday and asking about diet. Was told to start protein shakes, bars then eat a sensible dinner of protein and vegetables. Stay away from carbs, starches. So far so good. I was very hungry first couple of days but it's getting much better. Went to my physician Monday for medical clearance. Had to go to bariatric center today to meet with my dr and his team. Got my pre admission done at the hospital. I'm all set for surgery the 19th. Told me I am first to be operated on have to be there at 6 am. Hope all is going well for you too.
Good luck with your surgery!! I too had lap band for 8 years. I had mine removed and sleeved all in one day on December 29. I am so very happy I did it! This is way way way better than the band was. I did have a little moment the day after surgery when I got home where I thought, oh no, what have I done, I can't change my mind, this is permanent! But about two hours later, I was back to happy I was sleeved and didn't have the band anymore. I was so worried about failing too, but I can tell you that 2 weeks out, I feel like I've got this under control! The hunger is different, I really do eat to get what I need into my body not because I'm starving like before.
You've got this! Youre almost there! Keep up the good work from before and you'll be at your goal before you know it!
This is an awesome place to get advice, research so you know what to expect and encourage someone else who is in the same boat you are. Please do keep us updated on your progress, lots of hugs!
Thanks classygirl! Wow your pep talk couldn't have been more welcoming. I'm glad your so happy about the revision. I hope I'm as happy too! I'm ready for this. I'll keep you posted!
