I was married, had two children, worked and took care of my family and although most of my life I was skinny, I had a protruding tummy and always wanted a tummy tuck but would not do it because it seemed vain and a waste of money. In addition, friends and family discouraged me from doing a dangerous procedure that was unnecessary because I was already “cute” and did not need to mess with my body. I listened to the naysayers and not to myself for a long time. My kids grew up, I divorced my first husband and remarried. I was finding it extremely difficult to find clothes to hide my tummy although I am an active person and try my best to stay healthy.

After discussing this with my husband and my good friend, they both encouraged me to do whatever I wanted if it made me feel good. I got myself a recliner, bath chair and walker from Craigs List. On September 25 he performed a tummy tuck and liposuction at Dekalb Medical and I am home today after staying overnight. I walked around upright in the hospital and at home and do not need a walker, nor will I need a bath chair. The recliner is a good idea because it will keep me on my back since I am a stomach sleeper and would probably hurt myself getting into that position in my bed.

I am not expecting a perfect tiny body. I just want to be on the flat side again. I am posting some pictures of my before and after and will update you as this 60+ finds her fabulous again.

Thank you for posting your journey. I too am having a tummy tuck on October 28th of the year. I'm 57 years young but my tummy is all over the place and I'm so tired of trying to tuck it in all the time. It's our time to shine! Good luck to you!

Looking good...had my TT and BR on 9/18 and I look like a pumpkin at this point as the bruises are yellowing and very puffed. But I am a believer that the future will hold many changes for this 61 year old body...

First night at home went well. Got home from hospital and have been going up and down the stairs emptying drains and measuring in my bathroom in bedroom upstairs. The walking will contribute to my healing so I don't mind. Slept in recliner downstairs last night while my friend slept in couch. (Husband worked all night). Had to get her to help me in and out of recliner since I don't want to pop stitches. Woke up this morning and feel amazing. Took my antibiotic, Cephalexin 500mg, my high blood pressure medication and Advil to keep the pain away. I have hydrocodone handy but will not take unless I hurt really bad. I am on a journey and know I have to lose some weight to help me get to the flat side. I was a member of Weight Watchers for many years so I know that I have to eat right and exercise. I am looking forward to the future!

You are doing great. Continue to take it slow and listen to your body. I'm glad you decided to listen to your inner feelings and not to everyone else. You will be happy, just because it was your decision. Take care and keep us posted.

Thank you lord1212. I went through so much and spent real money to have these stitches come apart so I am taking it easy.

I didn't want to purchase a recliner so I slept on the sofa for lord knows how long. Then I finally went to bed, bath, & beyond purchased a wedge pillow it helped for a while but finally last night I was able to sleep in the bed without it.

Itchy throat and coughing this morning but I dran water and started sucking on a mint and it got better. Had a good BM this morning because last night I took a Ducolax. Did not want to be constipated and in pain as some Real Self sisters. Aim feeling good today. Managing pain well and moving around every chance I get.

You are doing amazing!!! I'm so happy for you. I am also not one of those young'ins on this site. I am 12 days PO and I just want to tell you to keep on moving and keep your positive attitude. You will have a great recovery and a beautiful result. Happy Healing.
(PS- I also didn't take the narcotics (only took 2) and I think it really had a lot to do with me feeling like myself sooner.)

I did but I was pretty drugged up at the time on hydrocodone/acetaminophen which I've stopped taking. (Addiction to pain pills scare me). Now at the end of my second week post-op, I take Avdil as necessary. If you have allergies and sneeze a lot, you should get medication because I can see how big sneeze could pop stitches.

U sound like me that's what I kept telling my husband I don't wanna get addicted he say hell if u in pain u better take them! I do have severe allergies but they wasn't acting up. At 3 weeks I sneezed twice back to back lord worse pain ever. But it's better now I have no more stitches.
