After spending 2/3 of my life hating my weight and desperately yo-yo dieting I have finally come to realize that where I am now (5'2 150lbs) is where my body just wants to be and at this weight I am able to eat the way I enjoy for my health and happiness. NO MORE DIETING!
With this, I realized that I never really hated my weight, I just wanted a different shape. I felt that I could never lose enough weight because no matter how small I was, I looked exactly the same, just smaller.
Anyway, I like my chubbiness and I just want to smooth out my shape and so that's how I got here! I am having smartlipo tomorrow on my upper/middle/lower abdomen, flanks, bra fat above and below the line, and chin. We will be breaking it up into two days because I am on several medications which metabolize in the liver and may cause issues with the lidocaine. Tomorrow is my first and next Wednesday 4/25 is the second prodedure.

Whew! It was made as absolutely comfortable as possible by the folks there, lots of casual chat, silly humor and lots and lots of really genuine care for my comfort. This day we did chin and upper/mid/lower abdomen.
First step was to get me in the prep room where I took off all my clothes except my undies and had a front-opening gown and a little hair cap thing. Next Dr. Kulkin took me into the photos room and got some pictures of me from various angles. Then he marked me up and asked me if that looked good to me. I asked if we could go higher on the top edge of my abdomen up to right under my boobs and he extended it for me (so if you have a preference just ASK!!!). The abdomen area does not really include the love handles and side waist so be sure to ask about that before you pick your areas. Both of those are considered "flank" which I am getting on Wednesday.
Next Nurse Nicole took me into the OR and I took everything off but the cap and got onto the table. Everything was legit sterile procedure and was very meticulous as far as no cross contamination. She then got me all wrapped up and comfy (even with little heat packs!). She is seriously awesome, made me feel totally safe! We chatted about her crazy grandkids while she cleaned me up and it really eased my nerves.
Next Dr. Kulkin came in and we began! He started first by injecting a bit of lidocaine just under the skin at the incision points. This didn't really hurt much because it was right under the skin. Once that was numb he poked little holes in the areas. No pain but a weird popping sensation O.O next came the big gun lidocaine and, as expected, it was a [RS bleep]. It definitely hurt but was tolerable for the most part (a few areas made me squirm, youch!!) and took the longest. It was so bizarre as he pushed the needle across a large area, I could hear and feel the fat cell beads moving, it was eerie!! The pain was from injecting lots of fluid into the small space, and the entire abdomen was filled with fluid to give you an idea of how extensive it was.
Once I was all numbed he began the zappy part. I felt the same sort of weird movement as with the lidocaine around my fat cells and there was a clicky zappy noise going on. I felt the zap just a couple of times but it didn't really hurt, just a pins and needles sort of sensation.
Next he sucked it all out! This was the quickest I think but was more uncomfortable/painful on the areas there weren't totally numb, I told Dr. K and he was very considerate. This was normal though, not a fault of technique. When he was finished up he pinched the skin around my abdomen to show me how thin it was!! There was no roll, it was just skin! Ahhh!! How cool! So he definitely got a LOT out.
Abdomen took about an hour and chin like 15 minutes. I'm not kidding this chin thing can be done on a lunch break or when out to eat with your friends. It was so easy and the soreness after was very minimal.
Final step was to put in a drain then Dr. Kulkin was done! Nicole then cleaned me up, bandaged everything and helped me into the recovery room where I got dressed and then I left!
The fluid made my belly about twice its size when I went in and the fluid in my neck made me look like a toad LOL but all that was mostly gone by this morning.
So by bed time the lidocaine was wearing off and I was definitely feeling pain at the incisions (5 total as you can see in the photos). The drain placed on the bottom left incision tugged a bit which was a little irritated by bedtime but I popped the hardcore Tylenol they gave me and went to sleep.
I emptied the drain 4 or 5 times that evening but this morning there wasn't much coming out and today the drain and all the sutures get removed. None of the incisions have drainage this morning and the horrid molted coloration of my skin is pretty much gone. That made me look like a corpse pulled from a lake!
I will give another update tomorrow morning about the next day experience. So far this morning I am *very* sore and the incisions are sharp painful so I took another pain pill which took the edge off. I am hoping that is the last one I will have to take. Thank goodness for modern medicine!
