I have always had a hereditary double chin - no matter what my weight has been. I have always struggled with my weight as well as it has gone up and down a few times in my life. My chubby cheeks and full neck have always made me look heavier than I am. I have noticed that as I age my double chin is starting to hang lower and lower and is starting to look like a turkey neck!
I avoid having my photo taken at all cost and cringe everytime I see a photo of myself. I am SOOOO over THAT feeling!!! I have finally decided to do something about it.
I am at a good point in my life and feel good about myself - inside and out. I struggled with the decision to do this because I did not want to send a negative message about body image to my daughter and I felt selfish for wanting it. After lots of introspection I decided that life is short and I want to look and feel my best. So....I am going for it!

I went for consultations and decided against Kybella because of the many mixed reviews. Lipo was definitely the way I wanted to go and my PS said it was more bang for your buck. I decided that wanted to be put under for the procedure because the thought of someone working on my neck while I was awake freaked me out a little.

On the day of the procedure I found myself much more excited than anxious. My doctor did the procedure in a surgery center and I was under general anesthesia. It was very easy and took about an hour. I spent an hour in recovery and woke up without pain and only groggy. I was given the elastic band to wear for 72 hours without taking it off (except for a shower.) My doctor also told me not to lower my chin but keep it straight or up in the air as much as possible. He also said that I needed to sleep sitting up for a couple of days to help with the swelling.

Two items that I found helpful and did not plan for.
1. A travel neck pillow - So helpful with keeping me from looking down and keeping my chin up. Also, so good for sleeping sitting up. It really helped keep my comfortable last night!
2. Velcro Ice Pack - I had this from a leg injury and it was helpful to keep my neck iced and wrapped around my head to it stayed on well.

I have been eating pineapple and drinking a lot of tea to help with the swelling. I am arnica gel to help with the bruising and swelling. I have been adding essential oils to the gel as well.

24 Hours After Surgery:
I can definitely feel things more today, which is normal. I am using the pain meds and ice. I did get a quick shower which allowed me to peek at the results. I am still very swollen but I can see a difference. I plan on wearing the elastic bandage as much as I possibly can to help get the best result I can.

Day 4 progress -Minimal bruising -still swollen

jittter
It is 4 days after the procedure and I definitely feel better each day. The whole recovery piece has been easier than expected. I am still swollen and sore but Tylenol makes it manageable. The bruising is not near as bad as I expected and I bruise really easily. I want to chalk that up to the arnica gel, lavender oil and eating pineapple but I have nothing to judge it against!
I am wearing the elastic chin strap 24/7 in hopes of getting the best result possible. I have taken it off to shower and can see the looseness of the skin, especially at the curve of my neck. (It is amazing to see a concave curve in my next instead of a convex one!) I want to try and get the loose skin to reattach as tightly as possible so I will keep wearing the elastic band as much as I can. I can also see a little bit of asymmetry but I think it is far too early to worry about that.

Hi, I'm researching this procedure for myself. Your results look great! Did you get a neck lift with the Lipo? I keep being told I have to have a lift because otherwise the skin will just continue to hang. I'd love to just get Lipo with a chin implant

Actually, I was thinking I would need to have the neck lift as well because of the amount of extra skin and how low my chin was hanging but my PS said that I had enough elasticity in my skin for it to reattach without a lift. I was a little skeptical and I was worried that I may need the muscle and skin tightened up. So far am THRILLED with the results! Even if there is a little sag in the end it will be SO MUCH BETTER than what I had before!
I can definitely see that the skin is still loose under my neck (See new photo), which is why I am trying to wear the elastic band all the time. (Just FYI- I am much more swollen today because I ate salty food last night and didn't sleep upright last night.) The band is quite annoying after a while but if helps get the result I want it will be worth!

Day 5 - More swelling today

jittter
Today I am more swollen - totally my fault because I ate pizza last night and I gave up on sleeping upright. I woke up more swollen than the past couple of days. Wearing the elastic band is getting tiring and my face is sore from wearing it. My ears look terrible from the pressure of the band! I continue to see some asymmetry with the right side being fuller than the left side but am trying not to look at things critically at this point. It is hard not to worry because there is a lot of extra skin to reattach. I am hoping that wearing the band will help with that.
Overall, I am still really happy with the way things are healing and the results so far.
