So as you can see from the pictures attached, my biggest problem are my BrEASTS! I’m 25 years old wearing 34M US bras. I am originally from the UK and moved to Atlanta January last year (2017). I think my biggest breaking point apart from quite clearly looking at them was the inability to buy a bra in the US. If I wanted to buy a new bra I would either have to wait until I went back to the UK or would have to import. Both of these options costing a lot of money and still being in pain having to wear them.
I don’t know if this blog will help anyone but this site was basically my bible for years and every review/experience helped me make decisions from whether this was the right decision for me to who will be the right doctor for me, so anything I say will hopefully be helpful in some way, shame, or form (just like breast’s, right?)
I had a very successful consultation last Friday with Dr. Song at Prima Center for Plastic Surgery, Atlanta. From the moment I walked in, I was comfortable. I didn’t feel rushed and I was half expecting to be in and out in under 20 minutes not feeling comfortable with the information I received and having more questions than I begun with! But that was not the case! I was greeted by a lovely lady at reception and instructed to fill out some new patient forms and then passed over to another lady for measurements and to talk a little. She completely put me at ease and was extremely professional from the moment I walked in. Dr. Song also was very professional when taking measurements and on the breast review side of things. We then sat down where he showed me a PowerPoint presentation of the surgery, talking about risks, method types, as well as before/after pics from his previous surgeries. He went into a lot of detail of the 2 types of surgeries that could be done, one being a traditional approach which involved keeping the nipple attached to the blood supply where he believes he will be able to get me down to a large C/small D (music to my ears!!!!). Another approach being a nipple graft which basically involves cutting away the nipple from the blood supply, getting you down to as small as you want, and reattaching the nipple obviously then losing nipple sensation etc. He was honest and recommended the first method and stressed that patient safety/risk is a high priority for him and I totally believed his every word. When he asked if I had any questions, I pulled out my massive list of notes on my phone and was pleasantly surprised that he had answered most if not all of them. Another couple of pointers to mention from the consultation - he told me an anchor incision would be used for my procedure. He also does side lipo included with the price, he sees this as a must. Does not use drains (yay). And included in the cost would be another pre-op visit, the surgery itself, pain medication, surgical bras after surgery as well as some to take home if I wish, and either 1 or 2 post-op visits (can’t remember how many).
After the above, Dr. Song gave me his card and told me to email if there were any further questions I had (this was another massive selling point for me - he cared!). I then sat down with another lady where we went through pricing, finance options as well as dates that Dr. Song had available for surgery. My husband was with me and we came to a quick agreement to take his first opening (April 27th 2018). It was nice to see my husband have total confidence as well.
We left the surgery very happy with our experience and have another pre-op visit scheduled for April 9th. Already having nightly dreams of a life without these monsters!!

Second and Final Pre-Op Consultation
Went for my second and final pre-op consultation 2 days ago and I just can't wait to get this procedure done! I received a lot of helpful info on what to prepare the night before/morning of surgery as well as surgery day. I was given a goodie pack to leave with including prep guidelines, prescription for medication (pain and nausea meds), along with antibacterial body wash to use in the shower the morning of my surgery. Again, I was given lots of opportunity to ask questions and this time I brought my husband into the room so he knew what to expect in terms of caring for me.
Some prep/recovery tips I was given (in case this is helpful at all to any of you):
1. Remove all jewelry before surgery
2. No make up for surgery
3. No nail polish/acrylics for surgery
4. Remove contact lenses, glasses, dentures for surgery - Wear glasses to get you to surgery, but will have to be removed for procedure
5. Come to surgery with loose fitting trousers and a button up/zip up top as it will be difficult to lift arms for anything over head.
6. Buy button up pajamas for healing
7. Buy some zip up training bras (still unsure what sizes to get)
8. Buy some antibacterial soap (like dial) - scented will be too harsh while recovering
9. Clean your house/Do your laundry before surgery date. Moving around too much will be difficult after surgery
10. Bring a cushion for the drive home to place on your chest under the seatbelt
11. Do not ice breasts during healing process (not really sure why)
12. No eating or drinking anything after midnight the night before surgery
13. Minimal activities for first 4 days after surgery - Walking around apartment recommended to keep moving
14. Sleep on back elevated 30 degrees
15. No heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling for a minimum of one week
16. After first week lifting restricted to 5 pounds or less
17. After surgery soft diet - water, sprite/ginger ale, coke, juices, soup, jell-o - no spicy greasy foods. Normal diet may continue after day of surgery.
18. No smoking or being around smokers 1 week after surgery
19. Keep surgical bra and dressing on until first post-op visit (one week) - No showering in this time
20. Lots of movies/games/entertainment around!!
One thing I'm not looking forward to is not being able to shower until after my first post-op visit which is a full week after my surgery date (poor husband lol). I think I've pretty much covered everything - Is there anything you guys can think of that may be helpful that wasn't mentioned above? Specifically things that I may need to pick up/buy beforehand?
If anyone has questions, feel free to reach out. I loved this site for making the decision to get my surgery and hoping that my blogging will maybe help someone thinking about it one day.

Have you had your surgery yet? I'm scheduled to get mine done on Wednesday! Starting to get a bit nervous about it!

April 13, 2018
Not yet. 2 weeks today!! I can’t wait! I’m sure everything will go smoothly. Just remember the reasons why you’re getting it done and you’ll feel much better about it! :) where are you based?
April 24, 2018
I'm in Canada, Newfoundland. I just had my surgery on April 18th. so I'm five days pre-op. You must be getting close now! Let me know if you have any questions. I can certainly help as much as I can! :)

3 days away!! Friday at noon is my appointment. I just seen your previous comment as well, I have to wait a week before showering. How are you holding up with not being showered? Are you able to put deodorant on or do you have to completely avoid? Your results are amazing btw, love the size they managed to get you to!
April 24, 2018
Ive been using deodorant regularly. Hygiene wipes have been getting me through and a good ole fashioned wash cloth and water bowl have helped too! My partner is amazing! He washed my hair for me the other day. I was able to get through a couple days with dry shampoo which I would recommend getting. Also if you put your hair in braids before the surgery they should stay in for a couple days. You won’t be able to lift to comb your hair.
I can’t wait to shower. But I have been getting by!
Not sure what size I am not just yet! Hoping a small D or a C!

thanks for that - I’ve just ordered some hygiene wipes off amazon. Great idea! They really suit your frame, not sure how much swelling you’re having but they look brill!
April 25, 2018
If you have one of those foam travel pillows for your neck that helps too. I struggled the most with sleeping sitting up for the first 48 hours!
Im having a fair bit of swelling and bruising now. The bruising only really started 2 days afterwards. So dont be scared when that happens. Are you anticipating drains being put in?

My surgeon doesn’t use drains which I’m quite glad about! He’s also doing side lipo which will have a lot of bruising. Just want it done now - so excited!!
April 25, 2018
Absolutely. The build up to the date is anxiety mixed with excitement. Let me know how you make out!

April 15, 2018
Brilliant list! I am hoping to book a consult soon after getting my Mammogram results. Good Luck! <3

April 23, 2018
I'll bet you're getting really excited!
One thing you might want to buy is dry shampoo. You can pick it up at any pharmacy, Walmart or probably Target. Since you can't shower you might want something to clean your hair.

Good shout - I have some already. Live by the stuff!! :)
I'm assuming you already have had this surgery? I have a question - when were you able to put deodorant on after surgery? I'm weary about not being able to shower for a week and not being able to lift arms

Good question - I can't remember. I'm sure I must have but maybe not the first day or two. I usually use 48 hour deodorant so I think I was ok. Besides I didn't move around a whole lot and didn't sweat much. My surgery was in February 2017 so it wasn't hot and that may have helped too. Any more questions feel free to ask. I don't have all the answers but will help with whatever I can.

What to buy in prep - sizes!?
Starting to look at picking up everything I may need to buy in prep. Not really sure what size of zip up training bras to buy? I'm hoping to achieve a large C/small D but after surgery with the swelling etc, I'm not sure a large will do. Does anyone have any suggestions on best place to go and possible sizes to look at getting based on your experiences? Do I want to get a fitted one or one which will be more loose?

I bought Playtex Zip Zip Hooray front zip bra in a large and medium. When the swelling went down I moved to the smaller size. I definitely wanted the compression factor - my breasts felt better under compression. I was reduced from HH to DD. My PS said he could safely reduce my breasts to half their size. If course we all want that C cup (!!), but I am so happy with my results and need very little support even at a DD. I even pass “the pencil test.” :)
Good luck! You’ll do great!

April 15, 2018
that’s very helpful to know! I agree with you, we all want that C cup and even although he says we’re looking to achieve a large C/small D, I have a feeling that I’ll be more of a DD by the end of it!! which is fine by me, I think that will suit my frame too! So were you able to wear a large with the swelling straight after surgery? And do you mind me asking your waist size? I just want to get an idea if my waist and new tata’s will squeeze into a large
April 16, 2018
My band size was a 36 and the large was perfect right out of surgery, then I moved into the medium as the swelling went down. My PS used surgical glue to close my incisions, so no stitches to deal with. Along with the surgical bra I woke up in, I was sent home with 3 Pambras. These are soft cotton liners shaped like a bra that totally covered and protected my incisions. No bandages or glue or pads to mess with and I could throw them in the laundry. I think they sell them on amazon. I highly recommend them.

I can recommend the Macom bra range. I got two. One in a medium band and one in small. With Macom you don't specify cup size just the ribcage size. I'm 8 days post op and find that the Macom bra is by far the most comfortable and supportive. My dressings were removed 4 days post op and the surgeon has put some sort of plastic protective coating along all my wounds. This means I can shower!! Macom have hooks at front. My other bras have zips but I prefer the hooks. Don't be put off by the tiny sizes of these bras when you bring them out of the packs. They will fit you post op.

April 16, 2018
Thanks - I've taken a look on their site. Is there a specific one you recommend? I see they have a range of different ones on there.
April 17, 2018
Hi there. I bought one each of the Macom bras. There's a long line one I think is the ultimate bra and the other one is the signature bra. I find the signature bra more comfortable in that its shorter on the body. The other one has a tendency to roll up at the bottom but that might be due to my muffin top. If you have washboard abs you'll be fine! I'm now 9 days post op and the swelling has gone down significantly. The nurse who took my dressings off told me to look for a bra that gives side support rather than front support. Macom does that. I'm so pleased I did this and I'm sure you will be too. The whole experience is uncomfortable rather than painful but so worth it. I took some time today to try on some clothes that previously didn't fit me...despite still being swollen everything looks so much better. I'm going to post some pics of pre and post in the next few days so you can see whats ahead. I'm UK based too.

April 17, 2018
Definitely don't have washboard abs haha! I love that you don't have to choose a specific size because I don't have a clue where to start! I'm also extremely weary about which bras to get because I'm afraid my (soon to be) new boobs will mould into a weird shape after surgery if the recovery bras not right. Definitely going to order the signature one from Macom. Thanks so much for bringing these to my attention!! Hope you're recovery's going well :D

I'm five days post op and I prepared in advance as well. I purchased several zip up bras. I was an H cup before surgery and I now fit into a medium zip up bra. The first couple of days the bras will be uncomfortable, especially if you have drains that will stay in for a period of time.
I'd recommend that you bring a pillow to the hospital for the car ride home. The bumps and regular driving can cause some pain. Hug that pillow with all your might and it will help.
Dont try to go without the pain meds. The first couple days were the hardest, but now at day 5 i'm feeling good. I still havent been cleared to get a shower yet, which is a downfall. But I already feel the relief. You might also benefit from looking up the different ways to organize your pillows to have you in a sitting up / comfortable position. I still cant get completely comfortable in bed, but the pillows help. Also ice packs are good and I've been able to ice for swelling for 15 minutes every 24 hours.
