I have recently had an MRI that shows I have ruptured silicone implants and I have decided that I do not want the implants replaced. I had the original surgery when I was only 18 and I was too young and insecure to make an important decision like that. But I did. Now after 24 years they have ruptured, of course. I was never really comfortable with them anyway as they obviously don't fix what your real problem is which is insecurity. My insecurity was conquered by maturity and by the love from great people. So that said, I have opted to not replace them. I have read a lot of posts on this site and have appreciated them a great deal. It's nice to know there can be a positive outcome to explantation. I have only met Dr. Susan Kolb and there is no way I'm going to let her do my surgery. I'm meeting 3 new doctors next week. I'm scared but optimistic thanks to all the brave ladies who have shared their stories. Thanks so much!

Wow. Sorry you had such a bad experience. I have heard so much positive experiences people have said about her. Just her knowledge that breast implant illness is possible seeing that most of the medical professionals deny that it even exist. I do hope you so find someone you are happy with bit for most important a skilled and trusting Dr. who will do his or her job correctly and do a capsule removal and drains too.

So glad to hear your experience with Dr Kolb. I had a consultation with her months ago and ended up cancelling because of the cost and she was out of network with my insurance. I ended up scheduling my surgery for this Thursday with Dr Alexander in Atlanta. I too have one ruptured silicone implant that is 32 years old. Never again will I put anything into my body like this! I can let you know how it goes if you are interested. I'm just praying for the best!

You should see if my partner Dr. Gordon is in network for you as he has much more experience than any other plastic surgeon in Atlanta (other than myself). He is excellent at removing silicone laden lymph nodes and the entire capsule which is needed in order to recover your health.

Wow! So surprised to hear that Dr. Kolb and her office was unorganized. I was thinking if I had the money. That I would have loved to have gone to her for my explant. Thanks! For letting us know. I'm in Los Angeles and am looking for a great PS to do an explant with a possible lift. I definiatly want to have capsule removed and have drains. If the PS says that they don't do one or both of these things, then I'll move on to find another PS. I also want to inquire about getting fat grafting. I'm 53 and am noticing my eye lids are a bit droopy. So if the price is right I'll have my eyes done as well. This way I'll come out with something that will look good after I heal.

I recently had a consult with Dr. Kolb, and she was warm, caring, extremely knowledgeable, and spent a lot of time with me. She has first-rate medical training and credentials, and is one of the very few who specializes in breast implant illness. She also has a holistic view and does employ some unconventional methodologies, but she has helped many women when conventional doctors failed to, which says a lot.

Please read the other reviews that actually have to do with the care and treatment of serious silicone chemical and biotoxicity at Plastikos. The paperwork was emailed to the patient but as sometimes happens, did not get to her inbox. The spider was there because the office was cleaned on Friday night and the patient seen on Monday. The magazines and papers do not bother the other patients as they realize that we are one of the busiest clinics in America taking care of women with very serious life threatening diseases and we provide them with many articles as resources which evidently offended this patient. We do frequent patient surveys, and other than prolonged wait times due to the nature of the illnesses that we treat that often take longer to develop a treatment plan, we have never had complaints about the magazines, the toys which are for sale, the papers, or any other issue this patient has brought up. So, I would have to conclude that this is an isolated case of a disgruntled patient. I have examined every patient in the exact same manner for 30 years and this is the first complaint I have ever received and she is not being truthful when she said that I lifted her shirt over her face as I just undo the bra and lift the shirt up over the breasts. I truly believe that this patient had forces working against her that did not want her to get well as she will find it difficult to find other surgeons that understand her disease if she is ill from silicone or from mold biotoxins. However, this review may very well keep the patients that do not need our form of specialized care from wasting our time that could be better spent helping the women that really need our help. If I am so irresponsible in my diagnosis of patients, how do so many recover from these very serious, potentially life-threatening illnesses? If we are so terrible, why are we are so busy and have so many patients come to us out of network after other surgeons fail to do the explantation correctly (and exacerbate the illness), fail to give antifungals, immune and endocrine support, and detoxification procedures? This is actually the only negative review of our care on Real Self that I could locate and we very few negative reviews elsewhere on the internet on any site. I personally found this patient very difficult to take care of due to a hostile attitude during the entire consultation and a hyper critical manner that I have actually only encountered one other time in 30 years of practice and that was in the father of a patient rather than the patient herself.

I know this thread is from last year, but I feel the need to comment on it because I want other women who come here searching for answers to know another patients perspective on Dr. Kolb. Please also feel free to look at my profile(or pm me with specific questions) because I explanted with Dr. Kolb Sept 29th 2015. I can't speak much to the magazines/papers/toys etc. because honestly it didn't bother me. She has some plush animals for sale in her lobby... so what? Yes, her office is not brand new but I did not see any bugs or dirt/dust. And yes, you will wait for her, but when she is with you she also will not rush her time with you, she asked me numerous times if I had any questions. She also responds to my emails day and night(I am from out of town). I have read people describe her bedside manner as being direct and that can be off-putting for some. I actually prefer that, but hey, if it isn't for you then that is fine, but don't try to discredit a fantastic surgeon. When she was going to examine me I just took off my shirt and bra- no she didn't step out so I could put on a paper gown, but I have no problem with it- she will be seeing it at some point anyway! I am so glad I went to her and have no regrets- and I paid out of pocket. Although Dr. Kolb is one of the best in the business of explanting but she is non-traditional, suited me well.

Because patients have silicone, chemical, and biotoxicity, as well as mold, yeast, viruses, parasites, intracellular infections, bacterial infections, as well as endocrine and immune problems and precancerous conditions due to the immune problems, non traditional methods of diagnosis are needed in order to help patients regain their health. Some fear based patients react negatively to this, but most patients that come to me understand that they have been guided to the correct clinic for treatment are thankful, not critical. Other doctors are not going to be able to help them regain their health in our experience. And if they go elsewhere for surgery, they usually end up coming back for the correct surgery and treatment with us later.
