I have recently had an MRI that shows I have ruptured silicone implants and I have decided that I do not want the implants replaced. I had the original surgery when I was only 18 and I was too young and insecure to make an important decision like that. But I did. Now after 24 years they have ruptured, of course. I was never really comfortable with them anyway as they obviously don't fix what your real problem is which is insecurity. My insecurity was conquered by maturity and by the love from great people. So that said, I have opted to not replace them. I have read a lot of posts on this site and have appreciated them a great deal. It's nice to know there can be a positive outcome to explantation. I have only met Dr. Susan Kolb and there is no way I'm going to let her do my surgery. I'm meeting 3 new doctors next week. I'm scared but optimistic thanks to all the brave ladies who have shared their stories. Thanks so much!

I chose to fly to Atlanta to meet Dr. Kolb because of the posts I have read on this site regarding her experience with explantation. Unfortunately the experience was a nightmare. The scheduling staff never sent me my new patient paperwork despite my calling them 3 times. But I figured all offices get busy and I prayed it was not a sign of a bigger problem. It was. I flew in and got to Dr. Kolb's office precisely on time. I then waited over two hours past my scheduled appointment time for my consultation with Dr. Kolb. No one in the office ever attempted to update me on why I was left waiting so long. The office lobby was dirty, cluttered and unprofessional. How unprofessional? There was a big dead dried up spider lying at my feet who looked like he had been there for a month and a rack of stuffed animals for sale in the waiting room...no kidding. After an hour and a half with the stuffed animals staring at me, I was moved to an even more cluttered examining room that had papers piled up everywhere and lots of dust. I was left waiting here for another half hour. Dr. Kolb finally came in and vaguely apologized for my wait. She appeared unprofessional and disheveled, just like the office. In two minutes she diagnosed me with autoimmune disease with absolutely no diagnostic information and told me I was peri-menopausal to boot. She said she wanted to examine my breasts so I figured she was going to give me a gown or something to change into but she literally just reached around my body and unhooked my bra and lifted my shirt over my face. I could not believe this was happening. She then proceeded to be completely tactless in talking about my breasts and re-hooked my bra herself. It was the most awkward and unprofessional encounter I have ever had with a doctor. I felt like I was on candid camera or in a bad Saturday Night Live skit. Dr. Kolb was irresponsible in her daignoses, she abused my time and apparently the office is a reflection of her and her work methods. No thanks. I will never go back to Dr. Kolb.
