If you are considering explanting, pls get numerous opinions. There's a few ps who prey on desperate women and who will try and scare you into a quick drastic procedure. Do your research! Don't rush your consults. Beware of the 1 website that will try and scare you into the most drastic explant procedures.
After 24 yrs, my left implant deflated.
I loved my implants but became scared when I started researching what to do about the deflated implant.
Seems there's not a lot of real data regarding best explanting procedures.
I had 3 ps consults. 1 scary one who recommended capsulextomy, lift, drains and lmpth nodes removed. 1 ps recommended only explant with no caps or drains. 1 ps recommend explant with drains.
After a month of confusion, and. I Consulted
with my regular breast doctor, I decided on explant with drains. Maybe a fat transfer down the road.

Which ps did you consult with?

I had 3 consults including a re-check from my regular breast care doctor after my PS consults. I did a consult with my regular breast doctor after 1 PS wanted to take my lympth nodes out. After more diagonstics fr my reg breast dr, lynoth nodes were found healthy no removal needed. It scared me not to mention that PS also found "debris" in 1 implant via ultra sound diagnostics. That was also unfounded both by my regular breast Dr imaging, and my explant photos of my implants showing no debris. I had my explant done with Dr. Ghazi. I highly recommend him. Again, get multiple opinions, don't rush this decision of WHO will explant you. I think the conflict arises when a PS is trying to rush you. That's a red flag. I hope this helps someone! I am thankful I didn't rush WHO did my explant.

Hi atno1,
Did I answer your consult question ? I'm trying to avoid saying anything directly negative about any PS, because I may have had a negative experience or perhaps my situation wasn't aligned with a particular PS, others may need that typen of PS. In my case, I was only experiencing mild symptoms to my saline implants ( fatigue, memory loss, mild, that could be chalked up to another cause) so I felt a Dr. Kolb was just too aggressive of an approach for me. Out of respect to those that are ill from implants , her drastic approach may be what they need.
Are you currently experiencing illness that may be linked to your implants?
Hope this helps! Let me know I'm happy to try and help.

It sounds like you are right about Dr. Kolb being to aggressive. I've done some research and had a few consults and my PS is going to remove my implants along with most of the capsule. He said he does not want to destroy my breast tissue. My feeling, and I could be completely wrong, is that, once the foreign object, the implant, is removed, the body will resorb the implant and fight of the remaining infection (if there is any). The other thing is, how can a doctor push for such an aggressive surgery without actually seeing what's inside, as far as capsule, etc. Why not just try for minimal and, if needed, you can always have a more aggressive surgery later but can't take back damage done. Also, a lot of the symptoms (which I have been experiencing as well), are also linked to many other illnesses (adrenals, etc.).I trust my surgeon very much, as he cares for me like family and I can't imagine that he would not do the very best for me. Anyways, I just happened to come across your comment about that one website... and I agree! Seems like maybe a money making scam, but I could be totally wrong (just my theory).

Hi sakedrop 10,
Thx you for your comment! We are truly speaking the same language on so many levels! I drove myslef (hubbie & kids) crazy for a month AGNOZING over the best procedure , approach and plastic surgeon! It's so conflicted regarding enbloc or not??. To lift or not during explant??? There is very limited research and data to support drastic explant surgery if you only have minor symptoms as I have (mild memory loss, mild fatigue, minor hair loss, low libdo, poor vision). I did exactly what you said, I did minimal explant ( only explanted with drains, no capsulectomy no lift no lympth nodes out) and if I need to later I will get more done. I'm thrilled with my results 10 days post explant!!!!!
Before I even had a consult with Dr. Kolb she had diagonsed me with needing a drastic explant, lift, detoxification etc. Then when I had my consult she said I needed my lympth nodes out (only after skimming the records I brought), capsulectomy, drains, and a lift ( before I had even taken my dress off, there was NO gown\smock just lifted my dress over my head ) then proceeded to do sydo applied kinesiology to determine what supplements I needed ( there was like 17 checked off her paper). Mind you this psydo applied kinesiology was literally her saying hold a piece of paper on my chest and having me repeat what she was saying to determine if I needed that supplement or detoxification product. For real! Still shaking my head.
Since I've had numerous biopsies and aspirations of my breast, I went back to my regular breast doctor to get her opinion on lympth nodes and her interpretation of the ultra sound I got done the day I saw Dr. Kolb at the imaging center across the street from her office that she had me go to prior to my appointment. Diagnostics at my regular breast doctor show NO ISSUES with my lympth nodes that would warrant taking them out! It also showed NO DEBRIS in my implant as Dr. Kolb
'S imaging center showed FURTHERMORE my implants that were removed showed NO DEBRIS after surgery!!!!!!!!
So, I went to the plastic surgeon my breast doctor recommended, Dr. Ghazi and have been nothing but over the moon satisfied with ALL interactions, professionalism, surgery and et all!
Again, I apologize to anyone who perceived my words as anything other than what there meant to be, simply my journey!
Then her office saying there was cancellations and I should schedule surgery sooner. All the while NO real studies to determine exactly what I needed. So stressful!!
I am truly not trying to discourage anyone who feels this is the type of surgeon they need. There are lots of reviews of people who say she saved their lives! It just wasn't a good fit for me and was too unsettling . this is only an account of my experience , and what was best for me.

Explant surgery done 11\23\15

My explant was done 11\23\15 by Dr .ghazi. Dr. Ghazi is amazing and I'm thankful I found him! No capsulectomy, no lift only drains. I have a photo of my 24 yr old implants that were explanted. One PS consultation told me my implants had mold, but the photo I have shows clear saline. I also got additional ultra sounds & mammo by my regular breast doctor and those films also showed no mold. One PS recommended removing lympth nodes, but again a second opinion from my regular breast doctor showed only healthy lympth nodes.
I'm sore, but I only needed pain meds for the first two days. Now I'm onto only Tylenol.
I hope this info helps someone! This website was so helpful to me!

How do they look? Are you happy so far?

I think im happy thus far. It's hard to tell how they look with the drains, swelling and ace bandage wrap. I was fortunate that the left one had deflated already a few months ago. So I was able to get a good feel of what they will look like. Small a cup.
I will post photos Monday when I get these drains out. I hope that they will just be small and not deformed from having a sub peck implants for 24 years.
Thx for your comment!
Appreciate the support!

Hi 2448, well done for ex planting. I had mine done yesterday and am coming to terms with the changes. My left is quite indented as the capsule was thick and PS said there was a fair bit of scar tissue. I've got drains also. Considering all they have been through the results aren't anything I didn't expect really.

Hope you are healing well. Please keep us posted with your progress .

Did you have the scar tissue removed? I am trying to decide what way to go. Do you need the drains?
November 28, 2015
Also did you have children in those 24 years?
November 28, 2015
Did you have your surgery under general or local? How are you feeling now? Any pain? I can totally relate to your story! I'm having bad anxiety about my upcoming explant as well! Are you happy you went through with it?

Hi Powell & other amazing ladies!
Yes, I had general anesthesia.
No capsulectomy done. Just a good rinsing. Drains for a week.
Yes, I have 2 boys 11 & 13. Breast fed both. I have been transparent with both regarding surgery. The stress of finding the right PS Dr and having to be immersed in educating myself became to much for keeping it private. Plus this recovery with drains etc is too much to hide. Hubbie & my Mom have been instrumental in healing both physically and mentally.
I
Thx for reaching out!
I'm recovering well, just Tylenol for the past few days. Back sleeping is rough though.
Photos coming Monday after drains are removed. Breasts swollen and a touch strange looking so I'm praying for just small "48" yr old boobs. Gone are the Baywatch boobs! Lol!

Hi honeybee,
Yes, I'm happy I did it. I had 1 deflated so I had to. Replace wasn't an option BC I can't do a replacement every 10 years as is recommended. Plus all I've read regarding complications is just too risky for me now. Seems the % for complications is just too big for me to gamble.
I'm waiting 6 months post explant and will decided if a fat transfer is what I need, mentally. I'd love to think that perhaps small healthy breasts is all I will need and I can embrace small healthy breasts and move on.
Thx for writing, and the support! It's keeping me going hearing from all you awesome ladies!

I am also considering explanting. 15 years with under muscle saline. Beautiful boobies, but they are killing my back. The cost shows $6. I'm assuming that means $6k?

8 days post feeling good!
I had 275 cc sub peck saline implants removed, they were 24 yr old. Left was deflated for 2 months. No capsulextomy , no lift, I had drains for 1 week, stitches under. I'm sore and returning to work tomorrow . Hopefully when the swelling goes down I will have at least an A cup. I had several aspirations, and tissue removed over the years that was suspect. Original implants were via nipples.

I do feel better! I highly recommend Dr. Ghazi. He and his office staff/facility were amazing! Pls get multiple opinions esp if you're considering a drastic surgery (beyond just explain ting with drains).
I'm happy to answer any questions, it can be very stressful finding the right dr.
Good luck!
