Revision Rhinoplasty with Dr. Mehta (Bay Area)

It’s been a little over a year I had my revision with Dr. Mehta.

I was bullied at school for my “big nose”. I was 14 when I first discovered changing the shape of your nose was possible. I recently reread a journal entry from 2008 that reads “sometimes I cry at night because of what some boy tells me at school...no one understands what it’s like to go to school and be picked on because of the way you look everyday...”. Reading that now feels so surreal because 8 years let I finally had a nose I was happy with. A nose I was confident in! I remember thinking about my nose every single day and looking in the mirror trying to alter the shape with my hands just to see what it might look like if I did get surgery.

I hardly think about my nose now. I don’t obsess over it anymore. I’m not worried about what angle of my face people are looking at. When I do think about my nose, it’s so weird! It’s weird how someone can be so talented and have the skill to give you something so amazing. Dr. Mehta allowed me to have confidence for the first time in probably my entire life. I find it so odd that a nose can do so much for someone.

My only regret now is that I didn’t go to Dr. Mehta sooner.

I had my first rhinoplasty in 2015 and I expected it to be my first and only surgery. Things did not turn out the way I had hoped and I was still self conscious about the way my nose looked. My nose was so crooked and I remember hoping that the shape would change for the better but every month it just kept looking worse. My breathing was worsening as well. After 2 years of waiting for it all to magically get better I decided to pursue a revision and I ended up picking Dr. Mehta.
At my consultation, Dr. Mehta explained to me that I had inverted V deformity, a deviated septum and my breathing was obstructed about 50-60%. He was so confident that he could straighten my nose and improve my breathing. Jill, who is his surgical coordinator, was able to get authorization from my insurance for the medical part of it and we scheduled for surgery!!
The day of my surgery came and I remember being so calm and comfortable, the nurses were so nice at the surgery center! Recovery the week after was what I expected...(bruising, swelling, little pain, etc.). My nasal splint was taken off on day 6 and went back twice in the next two weeks because since my nose was previously so crooked Dr. Mehta wanted to make sure my nose stayed that way so he kept a close eye on it.
Its been a little over two months and Im so satisfied with my results!! I finally have the nose of my dreams and sometimes I'm in disbelief that I have a cute nose now. I could not imagine having gone to anyone else for my revision. Of course my nose is still swollen, more so on one side (because I sleep on my side) but I can see how straight it is. My breathing is so much better than it was pre op, I can finally take a deep breath through my nose and its so satisfying to be able to do that. I'm not self conscious about about what side of my face people look at anymore.
If you're considering your first rhinoplasty or a revision I really recommend you get a consultation with Dr. Mehta. Even if you don't schedule with him, the information you get at your consult is so valuable. However..... if you DO decide to have your procedure with him then I promise you, you will be in great hands. He is an amazing surgeon and I'm so grateful for his skill!!
