After a diagnosis of Breast cancer in May of 2014,...

After a diagnosis of Breast cancer in May of 2014, I immediately began my search for a medical team with a track record of success and solid reputation in the Washinton DC area. After consulting with my primary physician, obtaining personal referrals from Breast cancer survivors, and learning what I could from internet research I turned to the Reinsch Pierce Family Center for Breast Health at the Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, Virginia for my team of surgeons, oncologist, chemotherapy and physical therapy specialists and to Inova Alexandria Hospital for my radiation treatment.

During the last 18 months I underwent a mastectomy with placement of a tissue expander, Breast reconstruction with implant, chemotherapy and radiation treatments and physical therapy. I feel great and grateful for the medical team I have come to know and cherish.

The focus of this review is my reconstructive surgeon, Mazen Bedri, M.D.
Dr. Bedri was referred to me by my Breast surgeon, Molly Sebastian, M.D.

He is very methodical and professional in his approach. Beginning with my pre-operative discussion and continuing with post-operative appointments he took time to explain my breast reconstruction options, alternatives, and associated risks, and benefits. I would always push for "worst case" views and he did not hold back. At the same time he presented a complete and realistic picture that gave me the understanding and confidence to make the decisions that were best for me. He is very conservative and careful in his practice. His attention began with surgery so that the outcome was the best achievable, and it followed throughout the healing process to ensure that all was proceeding as planned and without complications. After each surgery he spent time with my husband to report on my condition, explain what he had accomplished, and to address any concerns. This was the pattern at all the office visits--"how are you feeling? Let's take a look and see how you are healing. If you notice any change that concerns you I want to know immediately." His "bedside" manner is friendly, no-nonsense, and totally professional. He leaves you with a great feeling of trust in the care he delivers. Lastly, but very important, he has great , well qualified staff.

I would highly recommend Dr. Bedri's care and Breast reconstructive talents to all who find themselves facing the needs that I experienced . He is a gifted surgeon and caring person.
