Do NOT get a donut mastopexy /areola reduction

I always disliked my areola. They were oblong and sat too low on my otherwise perky breasts. I got a donut mastopexy from a surgeon in Toronto with a permanent suture. When the surgeon was performing it, he said, "you're actually an ideal candidate for this procedure" because I needed minimal lift, and my breasts weren't big/heavy.

The surgeon left them too large for my liking even though they were smaller than the original, and a year later, despite being an ideal candidate and taking excellent care of them, they have stretched to be larger than the original, with a white ring of scar tissue around them.

I highly recommend getting a lollipop mastopexy instead, which prevents the stretching. It's what I will pursue next if I choose to undergo another surgery.

Feel free to message/comment with any questions!

I’m having this exact same problem now, with 2 surgeries (one to fix). It’s comforting to see that someone else is having this problem. It’s so upsetting!

Damn, so they stretched out again? I had recently been considering a 2nd surgery but not sure if it's worth the time or expense

Thank you for your review and advice.
What was your healing care instructions or what you did while healing? And for how long did you do it? Do you wear a bra?
And do you smoke tabaco?

I wore silicone scar sheets that were recommended by my plastic surgeon. I am a healthy 31 year-old. I wore a sports bra for months. I do not smoke

Hi - thanks for sharing, I had exactly the same experience. Even wore steri strips for 2 months then started the silicone until 4- 5 months post. Even with permanent sutures they only stretched out 1cm approx, but it’s the cheese wire effect. Plus I found my natural areola dark tissue “grew” back outside the scar border after a full 12 months to restore the size of my old areola! Weird but apparently this is very common on your body being “clever” to regenerate and repair. For 100% clarity this tissue was not there in the 12 months after surgery, this dark areola tissue grew back thereafter. I’d advise against areola surgery as you will regret the scars no matter how careful you are they are still more ugly than your current areola. Trust me on this one. Natural is always more beautiful than scarred.

I am so sorry that you have a result you’re dissatisfied with!! Thats heartbreaking. Im considering this along with implants but its a tough decision for me. Can i ask who your surgeon was? Im also seeing a surgeon in toronto
