Aquamid Removal - the product is starting to look more obvious

ORIGINAL POST

Aquamid Removal

I had Aquamid injected into my lips in June 2006 and I really wish I hadn't. As the natural aging process is happening, I'm losing my own volume in my lips and therefore the product is starting to look more and more obvious. Luckily I have not had any complications, I believe the surgeon who injected the product did a wonderful job and injected it deeply which is why I haven't had granulomas etc. but my lips are starting to look lumpy as my own collagen depletes and it's about time I had the product removed. It's been 16 years, I was told it would last for 10 years but I'm thinking now it's completely permanent, as my lips are as big now as the day I had them injected.
The problem is, the most appealing removal method is the laser which only seems to be in Italy or Barcelona.
I have spoken with 2 surgeons here. One of them wants to aspirate the product to get it out. The other wants to perform surgery which may require my lips to be reconstructed afterwards. Both have told me that there will still be a little product left over afterwards. It's impossible to get it all out once it becomes integrated with your own tissue.
Has anyone here had experiences within Australia, of having aquamid removed from lips after 10+ years either by aspiration or surgery? Just not sure which road I should go down. Any advice or ideas from people who have successfully had this product removed from their lips, ideally in Australia, would great. Thanks so much.

I have been trying to get it out in Sydney for years. The Manse does aspiration. Have you had any luck?

I asked them in 2018 and they told me they no longer do it. There is a doctor called Dr Ho at Sydneywest Aesthetics who does aspiration and I had booked a consult with him in June but had to cancel as I found out I'm pregnant. But you could try him. Or Dr Laith Barnouti, he does surgical removal. I will likely be booking with him once I've had my baby because I don't think they will be able to aspirate what's in my lips, it's just been there for too long now, it's probably been encapsulated by my own tissue. Good luck and feel free to DM me with any questions or with your own results / experiences.

No advise, but I also have Aquamid and want to get other fillers over it. It’s been 7 years since I got it, but I’m seriously thinking about just getting a juvaderm fuller as that’s what they say is safest over aquamid.

Good luck! I have been told the only kind you should get over aquamid would be more aquamid. I just want mine out, because imo my lips are already too big, I want them smaller haha. But if I was happy to get more product in I would probably get more aquamid, just in case it reacted to another filler. As long as you get someone who knows what they are doing and knows you have aquamid in there already then you will probably be okay.

Thankyou, yeah I have asked the nurse that does my Botox about getting filler over the aquamid and she didn’t know much about it. I think maybe a plastic surgeon who specialises in injectables would be the way to go, sometimes I wonder with the nurses if they really know what they are doing and actually had proper training.

Dr Laith Barnouti (who I plan to have mine removed by) still does aquamid injections if you were interested in having more. He's a resconstructive plastic surgeon. Otherwise yes, best to be cautious when it comes to nurses / those who have not had a lot of direct experience with aquamid. From what I've been reading, it can be unpredictable!

I am in perth, Australia. And I can’t find any doctors here that deal with Aquamid. Worst case scenario I will just be getting some filler over with a Dr that agrees to do it. I am so scared that I will have a bad reaction. But I have been seeing other peoples posts about getting restalyn over it, with no adverse reactions. So I’m hopeful.
