Botox spread from the injection sites with horrifying results. Two months ago I had Botox injections in my 11’s, forehead, crows feet and upper lip. Shortly after the injections I had difficulty swallowing, throat & tongue swelling, hoarseness, racing heart beat, dry eye, throat and neck pain, rash on my neck and face, and bruising around my left eye. I was in and out of the emergency room and hospital during the first week. The Botox migrated into my cheeks, nose, upper and lower gums, tongue and lower lip. Although my symptoms have slowing been dissipating, I still have numbness in all of these areas and my swallow function is still not back to normal, but is improved. A few days after the injections I developed muscle weekness in my upper arms and back of legs and buttocks. I was on high dose steroids and antihistamine drugs to control the symptoms and have been able to taper the dose to a low level over the past two months, but I have not been able to discontinue the drugs. The whole experience feels like a nightmare. I could have lost my life! I now I a mountain of medical bills to pay on top of dealing with my health issues.
The true number of problems that occur with Botox and other drugs are not known because the FDA does Not require doctors to report any adverse effects. Reporting is voluntary, so if you experience any problems they should be reported to FDA Medwatch, which has a quick online reporting form. Don’t do Botox!

I was injected Aug. 9, 2013 I have had adverse effects as well. They come and go. I have had good days and bad days. A pharmacist from Dysport (like Botox) does travel and takes up to a year to leave the body. I'm over a year, don't think it ever leaves. Those first 4-6 months are a nightmare! Feel bad for you! I know it all to well. Wish I found this site before I injected.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It is helpful to know how other people have progressed after a bad outcome.

I read your post and many of the other posts as well., Your experience sounds terrible. I hope you have a full recovery.

I have given up hope of getting my face back. Botox ruins us and Doctor's just do not care!

Best of luck in your recovery! I had the same symptoms as you plus the worst insomnia imaginable. It takes time, but, you do eventually heal. Because most doctors are so adamant that this garbage is completely safe, I (against my better judgement) got my glabellar lines injected again after my initial recovery, only to have the same horrific symptoms as before. Doctors have no idea. For some people, this stuff is extremely dangerous. Use with extreme caution, or, better yet, don't use it at all. I'll never put my health at risk again.

I'm glad to hear that you recovered. You were very brave to have tried it for a second time! I am hoping for a full recovery and I will never do Botox again. I wish the FDA would make reporting of adverse events mandatory, but I guess not enough people report their complications to Medwatch. I agree that doctors make Botox sound very safe. If I had realized that these types of serious complications were possible, I doubt I would have gone forward with the injections. The first time I used Botox I was fine and then, bam, the second time was a disaster!

My insomnia lasted for about 6 months and then would come and go for about a year. At 2 years out I am doing much better, but still suffer some adverse affects.

Many people have those same symptoms and it just takes time for the body to repair its self. Most people do recover, so know that each day that passes is a step forward in your healing. Some people do take an anti-anxiety med to help deal with the stress of it all. The feeling of having good and then bad days can be difficulty, but know that you are not alone in this, so hang in there. Try to get plenty of sleep, stay hydrated to help flush toxins out of your body and try to get some light exercise in each day if you have the strenght. There are also some FB support groups if you feel that would be helpful for you. Hugs.

I had a lot of crazy pulsing in my face, mouth, throat and head, and still have some pulsing at times. At 2 years out I am doing much better, but still have some medical problems. It can be very stressfull to have these weird sensations. Those sensations could be a variey of things as Botox damages/destroys the nerves and then they have to regenerate themselves over time. It was a slow process for me, some people report good improvement in the 9-12 month range, but it vaires by individual as we have different genetics. The amount and location of the injection will effect this also.

What symptoms did you have in your face with botox? I have swelling and bags under my eyes. Some days are really good, and I find that a low sodium diet AND NO CRYING helps...but as soon as I do any of that, its back to square one.
