Day 6

I thought I'd take my pictures and measurements one day earlier than a week out on account of the upcoming Thanksgiving dinner. :)

The swelling has gone done a ton! I have been wearing full-length compression pantyhose at 30-40 mmHg. They are a struggle to get on and I ordered some at 15-20 mmHg that arrived today. I will be switching to those after today. I'm still wearing the stomach binder and a low support sports bra or a bralette.

Pain is minimal. I don't need any pain medication anymore. I am only sore. The bruising is definitely worse, but it's still not as much as I was expecting. The biggest thing I've noticed is that I have pangs of sharp soreness....I don't know how else to describe it...when I change position. Going from sitting to standing is painful in my thighs and stomach. And going from standing to sitting? Same thing. Other than that, I feel really good! I've very excited for the outcome and I'm feeling like all it takes is patience from here on out.

That's the hardest part. Waiting! UGH!

If anyone has tips on any supplements to take or things to do to help with retention, I'm all ears! Let me know if I can answer any questions. I'd love to be helpful for anyone else who is thinking of having this done.

Day 3 After Surgery

My worst pain was on the second day after surgery. It wasn't insane, but I had some intense nausea and a headache that made me pretty miserable by themselves, add on the soreness and it was no bueno. I started walking laps around the kitchen island on the day of surgery, and increased the laps by at least 10 fold by day three. I even went up and down a full flight of stairs on day 3, which took a while, but it was doable.

I used to be quite athletic until about 3 years ago when a random heart condition decided to pop up for a while. My cardiologist called me an "Elite Athlete"...and I have stuck fairly close to my training diet even if my training regimen is something I am unable to do. This is good as it has kept me in pretty good shape, but it has made for a difficult time having places to harvest fat from. I did gain 5 pounds for the surgery, but Dr. Jensen asked me to be at my usual weight so that I would not lose transferred fat when I went back to my normal weight. I accomplished this before the surgery and I was back in my normal weight bracket of 118-124. The soreness from the surgery feels much like a heavy training day that you dind't prep well for. It's not CRAZY....but it is very tender to touch and quite sore.

Day 3 is the day I showered and finally inspected my body. I had changed dressings, but not unbound myself to see the full results. (Yeah. I was nervous. Really. Nervous.)

The pain hasn't been bad. I have only needed one to two pain pills a day. I am mostly exhausted and I have been sleeping through most of the day for the first three days.

Not a lot of change in measurements. I expected a larger difference. My breasts are MUCH fuller, and I am fine with them being close to the same measurements as before. My main goal was adding back fullness, and I had discussed this with Dr. Jensen. It seems he listened and did a good job focusing on that. Of course I am still quite swollen and I won't know final results for 3 months, with the most significant loss at about 6 weeks, but I knew this going in. Final results for the lipo sites will be at 6 months. I would be incredibly pleased if I got to keep them as they are right now, but I know about 1/3 of what was implanted will not take hold or will die off. Still. So far I'm very pleased with the process. Now if I can just avoid all those tight holiday hugs and opt for fist bumps, all will be great! *Fingers Crossed*

I wasn't able to get the total amount of cc's taken or the amount transferred into each breast. I will get this information at my visit next week and let you know what was harvested and what was implanted.

Dr. Jensen took fat from the love-handles and stomach, (though there wasn't a lot to take in those spots, and he had told me this beforehand), then he took from the inner thighs, outer thighs, and above my knees. I don't remember if I already said this or not, but I had concerns about my mom pooch. Dr. Jensen stated to me that this would require a tummy tuck, as it was mostly skin and not fat, and he would do it if it was something that really bothered me, but he didn't think I needed it and it was a hard recovery for a small gain. I may or may not do this in the future. I'll see what my results are from the transfer and how picky I get.

Something I really like about Dr. Jensen is that he and his staff never make me feel like my body was ugly or fat or gross. At one of my other consults, the doctor made derogatory comments about my body, where fat was stored, and how he would fix the places that were not desirable, and I left feeling like my body was disgusting. That doctor's assistant was unfriendly as well, and I was very uncomfortable as we discussed what I desired.

Dr. Jensen did pretty much the same thing, noted the places on my body where we could harvest from, etc, but he did it in a way that didn't make me feel ashamed of my body, how I am shaped ,or where I store fat. I really like that about him.

Bedside manner isn't everything, a competent surgeon is the most important thing, but Dr. Jensen and his staff always made me feel like I wasn't stupid, overly picky, or any negative input when I asked my questions and talked about what I wanted to change. This is a HUGE plus for me.

Having a surgeon I trust and a surgeon who is body positive when you're basically standing buck naked in front of them, and their staff, while they're critiquing the parts of your body you hate the most....? This is NOT the time to feel like you're in junior high gym class and all the girls are giving heavy doses of side-eye and snickering at what puberty has done to you. This is NOT the experience you will have if you have a consult with Dr. Jensen. I also got a little emotional, but not full-on tears, and Dr. Jensen wasn't phased and didn't treat me with anything other than respect and utmost kindness.

I'm guessing he has a lot of emotional ladies in his office as he works on a lot of breast cancer patients.

Here are my pictures from day 3 after surgery. You can see I took pictures from the very beginning of the unwrapping process to the end. I put on 30-40 mmHg Compression pantyhose after my shower and this was very difficult. I talked with Dr. Jensen's office and they said I only needed light support, not the same compression strengths I used after heart surgery. I have ordered new pantyhose in a much lower compression rating, and they will be here in a few days.

Funny thing - The post-surgical bra is a 34 band size sports bra. It's very big on me. I looked up the exact brand and style and this is the smallest one they have. I called Dr. Jensen's office and they told me to just wear something that is comfortable, doesn't put pressure on my breasts, and doesn't have an underwire. I am going to switch to one of my loose sports bras and see if that's more comfortable. Dr. Jensen's nurse stated the bra was only to provide gentle support. No lifting or separating or pushing up. Just support....I picture this bra like happy little Bob Ross booby holders. Comforting. Kind. And letting my boobies be their happy little booby selves. ;)

Let me know if there is anything I'm leaving out that you'd like to know more about. I'd love to be as helpful as I can to anyone thinking about having this procedure.

I am a 38 year old mom of one child. Slender at 5', 7" and 124 pounds. I was looking for something that would help my breasts go back to where they used to be "in the olden days." I don't like the feel or upkeep of implants so I decided to go with fat transfer. I had researched it casually for over a year, then more seriously in the last 8 months.

I really liked the reviews with Dr. Bednar, but decided that ultimately it was too far to go and I would try to find someone local before going to all the added expenses of flying to North Carolina from Utah. (Hotel, East Cost pricing, Airfare for two, etc.)

I had a couple consultations with local doctors and decided to go with Dr. Mark Jensen in American Fork, Utah. I felt very at ease in his consultation and in our meeting before the surgery, I loved his office staff, and of course I checked him out with reviews on various websites. I had had two Miradry treatments at Dr. Jensen's office about a year prior, and I felt very comfortable with Dr. Jensen and his office staff.

Dr. Jensen told me that he did quite a lot of fat transfers to the breast, that he did them almost weekly, and I liked his experience and honesty with what I could expect as results, (1/2 to 1 cup size increase). Dr. Jensen didn't pressure me into anything and didn't try to talk me into implants as my other consults had. I felt well prepared and scheduled the surgery. I am slender and we talked about sites he would harvest from and the reality that there was not a lot of fat to transfer.

I am now 5 days out and I'm feeling really good. I am not sure what the ultimate results will be so I'm not sure if it's "worth it" yet...but my experience with the Dr. Jensen have been positive so far and I feel my needs and concerns have been taken care of, and I also feel good about the competency of my surgeon.

The only minor thing about this surgery was that I had to bring $500 cash or Cashier's Check on the day of to pay for the Anesthetist. A minor inconvenience, but it would have been more convenient to pay everything at once and not to have to remember to bring cash...and also go get cash. This was not a big deal though.
