Amazing Treatment for my Acne Scarring and Melasma!!!
I have dealt with pitted acne scars for decades and have always had super oily skin with huge pores. I’ve tried so many things with minimal improvement-3 microneedling treatments, numerous microdermabrasions and chemical peels, almost a dozen IPL treatments, a Fractional CO2 laser treatment (which hurt A LOT, had a lot of downtime and gave me very minimal improvement) and anything else I could try. I hated looking at myself in the rear view mirror in the car, wanted smooth skin and to not have to wear foundation unless I wanted to. Once I turned 40, I began to develop melasma (thank you, hormones!) and normally any type of laser treatment can make it worse. The Halo is different, it has been shown to significantly improve melasma, which is amazing!
Before deciding on what treatment I would have next, I did a lot of research before deciding on getting a Halo. The Halo laser is the most advanced laser technology that uses two different lasers during the treatment, is comfortable with numbing cream, takes about 15-20 minutes for the full face, and has about four days of “social down time”. This down time is very minimal and is much better and more comfortable than after a chemical peel with the peeling like a snake for a week or Fractional CO2 that left me with pinpoint bleeding for a week. One of the two lasers is deeper and works on acne scars, lines, wrinkles, pore size, flushing, facial veins and deeper pigmentation (brown spots) like melasma, while the other laser works on superficial brown spots and makes the skin radiant and glowing.
Prior to my Halo laser treatment, a numbing cream was applied to my face for about 20 minutes that made my face really numb and made the treatment really comfortable. My provider explained the treatment to me, went over what I should expect, gave me products to use for the week following treatment and made me feel very comfortable with having this laser treatment done. She then removed the numbing cream and measured each section of my face (forehead, cheeks and nose), then began my treatment. It felt like prickling in my skin and heat, but the handpiece has a hose that blows cool air on the skin while being treated. It was much more comfortable than the Fractional CO2 laser treatment and more intense chemical peels. When my treatment was done, I was given a bottle of mineral water to spray on my skin that was amazing! I sprayed my skin for the next hour then was able to put a thick cream on my skin to protect it. I felt warm, like a sunburn, for about an hour after my treatment, then most of the heat subsided. I was red for a few hours but by that evening most of the redness was gone and my skin looked more bronze than red, as if I had a tan. My skin felt like sandpaper for about four days and I could see dots all over my face. After about four days, the dots flaked off on their own.
My laser technician told me to wait two days after my Halo before putting makeup on and to use only a liquid mineral makeup. I had two family events to attend the next day, so I put liquid mineral foundation on and nobody knew that I had just had a Halo unless they got close to me and I pointed it out. My laser technician told me to not stick my face directly in the shower spray for at least a day after my treatment, but of course I didn’t listen and took a shower that night and put my face in the shower. It felt a bit zingy, but didn’t cause any adverse effect.
By the next morning, my face felt really tight and dry and almost all of the pinkness was gone and replaced with a tan/bronze look. I could see the dots all over my face. I reapplied the cream I was given several times a day and cleansed with the creamy cleanser they gave me twice a day. I wanted to scrub off the dots, but resisted the urge to. By day three, some of the, started to come off on their own and even more came off on day four. Before bed on day four, I took a hot, steamy shower and gently massaged the remaining flaky dots off with my fingertips. The next morning I went to work and only wore a tinted sunscreen/moisturizer and my skin looked amazing. I had the Halo glow!
Within a week, my pores were noticeably smaller, my acne scarring was improved, especially on my temples and cheeks, which had been the most stubborn areas and my melasma was noticeably improved. The texture of my skin continued to improve for several months after my Halo laser treatment.
People I hadn’t seen in a few months commented on how great I looked and asked me what I had done differently. I told them I had a Halo laser!
I will probably have another Halo in a year to keep my skin looking youthful and smooth and keep my melasma in check. I’m in my mid 40s and people think I’m at least 10-15 years younger than I am.
Getting a Halo laser treatment has been life-changing for me and has been worth every penny! I wish I had done it sooner.
