I wasn’t a suitable candidate for this program

Oddly Gas Lighty?
Where to begin on why this was a waste of money.
Overall, this did not help me lose weight. I was expecting it to restrict my calories by about half, and after the first week it’s like it had no effect.
So much emphasis from the programme was placed on eating differently and exercise, it’s like Allurion itself doesn’t have faith in its own efficacy.
I wanted this balloon to stop having to obsess over what I had for each meal, but it becomes plainly apparent that, no, you still have to obsess over food. The nutritionist I worked with tried her best, but there still had to be careful planning on what I ate each day. This is not the outcome I wanted. What I *wanted* was to be one of those people who fancied a salad for lunch and somehow it lasts well into the afternoon. You’re given a smart watch to track exercise, which as someone who runs 3 times a week, was worrying as if they’re expecting an increase in exercise to do the work the balloon should be doing.
The techno junk doesn’t stop there, you get smart scales and an app. The app patronises you into all sorts of basics around healthy eating, and the AI exacerbates this. Don’t drink my calories? Thanks - I never would have thought of that before.
The placement itself was grim. Swallowing the balloon is very undignified, and I couldn’t do it without it being shoved down my throat. There is no smaller balloon if you’re 5ft 2, so the cramp you get is excruciating within one hour. You get a myriad of tablets to take, but none of them were pain killers. You don’t even get advice for serious pain, I had to wait for an email from my doctor on what was ok to take.
I think part of the reason this didn’t work was that I wasn’t a suitable candidate for this program. I’m started off at 65kg; that’s just slipping into overweight according to BMI. My calorie allowance for the day is already pretty low and the balloon did nothing to help reduce this.
If you’re struggling with serious over eating, I think this could work for you, but if your eating small portions already it won’t work.
