I'm 27 yrs old and I just got a butterfly tattoo...

$165
I'm 27 yrs old and I just got a butterfly tattoo on my shoulder about 5 months ago. I don't think it's ugly but it's just not me. My first idea was to get a tattoo 3 times smaller than the one I actually got but the tattoo artist told me he wouldn't go any smaller because it would lose all the details so I went for it....I haven't gotten used to it and I spent the whole summer trying to cover it up w clothes and not wearing anything sleeveles. It's just not me. I just went for a consultation to have it removed w laser and the were very clear about the fact that they can't guarantee me it's gonna be completely gone especially because of the green ink being very stubborn to remove. They charge $165 per session and they recommended at least 14 sessions. I read that PicoSure laser is the best but unfortunately this place doesn't use that laser but one that's from the same brand. I would be happy if I can at least get rid of the black ink and then be able to cover up the green areas with a smaller more delicate tattoo. Any opinion, idea, suggestion would be greatly appreciated bc I am very indecisive about getting this done. Is it worth it?? I don't wanna end un w a huge dark spot on my skin or even worse some scarring or hypopigmentation. Thanks!

Hi :) Can you post pictures so we can see it and give you better feedback. Cover ups are totally possible providing you can fade it enough to have something delicate placed over. Cover ups tend to be on the darker and denser side of tattooes, however...it all depends on the tattoo, the amount of fading...so many factors. For me, I had a huge dark dense tattoo, I was able to fade it enough to do a fairly light cover, but I also had the faded lotus redone so it was more of a rework in one spot. From my experience, the lasered tattoo does not take the ink as well, I have had my lotus tattooed 2 times and it's still kind of faded looking and the lines are not as solid, but all in all I am happy with it.

Had the same thing happen. I have a butterfly on my hip that I wanted smaller but couldn't be aise the artist said it would lose detail. I also got it when I was 18, young and didn't think much about life or how things really last "forever". I am on my 4th appointment of q switch laser and it's not going too bad. My dr. said that pink does not respond well, so I'm crossing my fingers that it will lift. (My tattoo is mostly black with a bit of pink). Hope your removal goes well!! I'm going to post pictures soon, I never remember to log in here from my desk top.

I really like your tattoo! I totally understand if it isn't what you envisioned, though. My advice is to do your homework and have realistic expectations should you decide to pursue removal. I have had treatments with q-switch and Picosure, and found the Picosure to be much more effective. Good luck!

1st picosure treatment

I went for my first laser treatment! I choose a clinic that uses Picosure and it is performed by a Physician. Procedure is PAINFULL, but less painfull than I expected. It is kinda like the same pain you feel when getting tattoed but a little bit more intense, the good thing is that it is only a couple of minutes (depending on how many "time outs" u need lol) unlike the couple of hrs you go thru when getting tattoed. It felt very tender and sensitive right after the treatment and I developed huge blisters. It looks gross but I can already see some improvement and fading. The green ink is almost gone! I thought it was going to be the toughest to remove! I bought a package of 3 treatments for $800 but I'm probably going to need more than 3 treatments to remove it completely. The staff is very confident that we'll b able to remove it almost completely. I'll keep updating and posting pics. I really want to help others who are already going thru this or contemplating removing a tattoo by giving as much info as possible. I have to admit that going thru this isn't easy, physically and mentally, some days you feel kinda like depressed and not sure about what you are doing and if you made the right decision. Well, let's hope it's worth it!
