I am a 38 year old woman who had braces in my early teens. Unfortunately for me, I did not wear my retainer as I should have, and my teeth shifted. I decided to go with Invisalign because I didn't want to deal with having metal braces in my mouth at this age. I went in to get my "buttons" (tooth colored attachments that permanently stick to your teeth for the duration of your treatment) and pick up my trays five days ago. My 15 year old daughter is also having the treatment. She started the same day I did. Now, 5 days into treatment- OUCH! This HURTS! There was minimal discomfort when I first put the tray in- tightness, a dull ache- obviously the teeth were moving. I could handle that pain every day. What really hurts are these buttons attached to my teeth. Every time I take my aligners out to eat, I want to cry. They are so sharp, it feels like razor blades are cutting the insides of my upper and lower lips. The sores are so bad that they are bleeding. My daughter's buttons are not bothering her, but she is having a lot of pain on the under side of her tongue from the sharp edges of the aligners. I've filed her aligners down, and she said that has helped tremendously. The question I have, is what can be done about the sharpness of the buttons? I only have to wear these things for 12 weeks, but with this pain, it seems like an eternity!
