Minimal Improvement, Disastrous Side Effect
$4,500
I had few problems with the actual surgery procedure except the doctor was coughing and sneezing throughout the procedure, and did not have a nurse or any assistance in the procedure room. The pulling, cutting and burning ( I assume cauterizing) was quite traumatic to endure . The doctor hardly spoke during the entire procedure
After the surgery, my first PS visit happened 8 days after surgery. The doctor missed some of my stitches and refused to answer my questions regarding the fact that the left side was beet red, the incision along the front of my ear was infected looking with some discharge ( I was concerned!) and not healing like the other side, there was a bunching/puckering of skin in front of the ear lobe and underneath at the base of the ear, very different from the other side. The doctor was arrogant and dismissive and acted offended that I would even open my mouth to inquire about my own face and what he had done. Obviously - you do not go in for a mini face lift unless you are concerned about appearance! He also dismissed the fact that one ear was full of drying blood and the inner ear felt "swollen" and my hearing was impaired, sounds were muffled. I left feeling very worried and verbally abused. The preceding week I called the office and a dismissive clerk suggested I "email" the doctor.
I made an appointment with a different plastic surgeon in my area who had been recommended. His nurse removed the stitches that were missed and admitted that I was not the first patient to come to their office for help & with complaints about my surgeon's attitude and change in personality after surgery was performed This doctor lacked compassion and smpathy, and in the end a rude being. I had so much blood in one ear that I needed to have an ENT pick the clots out that had dried attached to ear drum. When I had asked the performing surgeon he had dismissed it as not his problem! I had started having ringing in the ear - tinnitus. But removal of the blood did not alleviate the ringing. 5 months later I have debilitating tinnitus. I have seen 2 ENT doctors, an osteopath and acupuncturist - no real relief help so far. Diagnosis theories are that the blood vessels that go to the inner ear during the surgery were damaged. My lower jaw line is starting to sag again already and the left side is very different from the right side., Isn't the oath doctors take " do no harm" ? The tinnitus is so bad that I sometimes cannot function during the day nor sleep at night, and am now dealing with depression.
I do think this surgery is a good way to go for sagging jawline but chose your physician very carefully - this one had many positive online reviews but now Must question where they came from.
Has anyone out there developed ringing in the ear ( tinnitus) resulting from face surgery? And, if so, Did you find help for it?
Thank you for any ideas.
To be clear - I do not recommend Dr. Chen in Abuquerque New Mexico.
