I gave birth to my first child at age 16 and breastfed. Several years and 2 babies later my breasts looked like empty water balloons hanging on my chest. Nine years ago a close friend of mine who was pushing 60 had a breast reduction and came out with gorgeous results. I had thought I was too old to make any changes to myself, but not after that! So, I did some research, and went with the new Mentor silicone implants. About 6 months after the surgery, I began to develop capsular contracture. A year after the initial implant surgery, I underwent a 2nd surgery to have them removed and repositioned. They were OK for the next 5 years. Then they began to harden and become misshapen. After turning 65 late last year I decided it was time to have them removed before one or both of them might rupture. I was tired of carrying them around and did not want to have to face possible surgeries in my 70s and beyond. I found THE BEST surgeon in Albuquerque, MN - Dr. Neil Chen. I chose to have the implants removed with no replacements and no lift. The surgery was quick and easy. Recovery was minimal. I didn't need to take a single pain pill or Tylenol. Nothing! I am 1 week post-op today. I feel GREAT! My only regret is having waited so long to get back to being my "Real Self"! My advice to you ladies out there contemplating this, do some research on this site, educate yourselves. When you feel ready to take the plunge, go for it! The relief I feel far outweighs the temporary joy of having bigger, fuller breasts!

Wonderful story, thank you so much for sharing and caring for us!... I'm determined one moment not to have a lift but then one nurses comments and others who've fed with implants suggestions get to me... What was your decider in not getting a lift?... Do you have good supple skin?!... I have stretch marks from feeding... :/

Thank you, 40. Isn't this a remarkable site? I found the courage here from others' stories to make my decision and go ahead with it. My main decider in not getting a lift was the amount of surgery required. I didnt want to put my body through all of that extra surgery, pain and recovery time. I dont have good supple skin - I'm 65 years old and my skin is losing elasticity all over my body (I HATE IT!) but, that's part of the aging process. I dont have a lot of breast tissue, so yes, my breasts are not perky. They never were. But, that's OK with me. At my age I am not all that concerned with perky breasts. However - if I was 40 years old, I might possibly feel differently about that. I will take some pictures later today and post them for you.

Have you researched what the lift surgery entails? I'm assuming you have, but if not, please do before you make your final decision.

Wow! That's fantastic results!... Ok I'm decided... NO LIFT!... Thanks to you... The final report on good results after a significant time with implants etc... Thank you!.. I'm going to trust, accept and nurture whatever I have left!.... ;) You look fabulous!! All natural and womanly! :) [RS bleep]

Thank you very much! Are you planning to schedule your surgery soon?I wish you good luck and will remember you in my prayers. Please let me know how it turns out. And if you are unhappy with your results, you can always go back and get the lift later if you want to. It can take a few months for your tissue and skin to shrink up, so dont be too hasty. Also, one more thing to consider with a lift is you will be losing more skin, so if your breasts are on the small side like mine, you will be left with less. They'll be perkier for a few years, but gravity will eventually take over. Lol!

Good point! Hehe... Eventually gravity takes over everything!... ;) Yeah thank you for your wisdom shared, that's true, if I'm really unhappy with being saggy afterwards I can put another implant on the mortgage! ;) hehe xx

Thank you for sharing this. It is really inspiring. I live in Santa Fe so you are very close to me. I have decided to take out my 19 year old implants out ASAP. I am so happy to hear yours went well and it sounded super easy! That is what I want to hear! And you are feeling great!
I am hoping my insurance will cover it because I also think I have capsular contracture also.
Keeping my fingers crossed!

You're welcome! Have you decided on a surgeon yet? I had Dr. Neil Chen in Albuquerque and couldn't be happier with my experience. He and his entire staff are just fantastic. The surgical center and staff there were beyond my expectations.

My surgery WAS super easy! I never did have to take a single pain pill - not even a Tylenol. Good luck, I hope your insurance will help out. Please keep me updated on your progress.
P.S. Isnt this site wonderful?

I AM 68 AND GOING THRU THE SAME THING IN 3 WEEKS........GLAD YOU DID IT REALLY????
April 18, 2016
YES! Absolutely glad I did this! There is a feeling of FREEDOM that comes with not having to worry about any future complications, especially the ones that endanger life and limb. Also enjoying the soft, warm real flesh of my own body again.

If you are uncertain about going through with this, I encourage you to read as many posts on this site from the other women who have done this. It really helped me to decide. And there is a LOT of support and advice from everyone - its like a "sisterhood" here.

Before and after pictures

I have added some pictures that I thought might be helpful. In order: Original me, then the capsular contraction, the after picture of the removal and repositioning of the implants, and lastly the "new old me". These are the 2 pictures I took yesterday of my 1 week post-op, implant removal with no lift.
I hope this helps.
