I gave birth to my first child at age 16 and breastfed. Several years and 2 babies later my breasts looked like empty water balloons hanging on my chest. Nine years ago a close friend of mine who was pushing 60 had a breast reduction and came out with gorgeous results. I had thought I was too old to make any changes to myself, but not after that! So, I did some research, and went with the new Mentor silicone implants. About 6 months after the surgery, I began to develop capsular contracture. A year after the initial implant surgery, I underwent a 2nd surgery to have them removed and repositioned. They were OK for the next 5 years. Then they began to harden and become misshapen. After turning 65 late last year I decided it was time to have them removed before one or both of them might rupture. I was tired of carrying them around and did not want to have to face possible surgeries in my 70s and beyond. I found THE BEST surgeon in Albuquerque, MN - Dr. Neil Chen. I chose to have the implants removed with no replacements and no lift. The surgery was quick and easy. Recovery was minimal. I didn't need to take a single pain pill or Tylenol. Nothing! I am 1 week post-op today. I feel GREAT! My only regret is having waited so long to get back to being my "Real Self"! My advice to you ladies out there contemplating this, do some research on this site, educate yourselves. When you feel ready to take the plunge, go for it! The relief I feel far outweighs the temporary joy of having bigger, fuller breasts!

Before and after pictures

I have added some pictures that I thought might be helpful. In order: Original me, then the capsular contraction, the after picture of the removal and repositioning of the implants, and lastly the "new old me". These are the 2 pictures I took yesterday of my 1 week post-op, implant removal with no lift.
I hope this helps.

Hi there, and welcome to the community! Thanks so much for sharing your story with us. I hope you'll come back and give us regular updates as you continue to recover.
I am hoping my insurance will cover it because I also think I have capsular contracture also.
Keeping my fingers crossed!
My surgery WAS super easy! I never did have to take a single pain pill - not even a Tylenol. Good luck, I hope your insurance will help out. Please keep me updated on your progress.
P.S. Isnt this site wonderful?
I will keep you updated.
Thank you,
Sarva
If you are uncertain about going through with this, I encourage you to read as many posts on this site from the other women who have done this. It really helped me to decide. And there is a LOT of support and advice from everyone - its like a "sisterhood" here.
