Forehead Flap Procedure

The procedure required three surgeries. First one was to make the forehead flap using skin from my forehead which Dr Tauber pulled down toward my nose and it contained a blood supply so that the tissue would not die. The Second surgery was to secure the healthy, viable flap to my nose defect. And the third surgery was to finally remove the part from above my nose! It was a lot and I know I could not have made it through all this without the confidence and expert skills of my doctor. I understood everything and tried hard to be patient. Having a good support network at home, my family, also really helped me get through this period of 3-4 months. I always asked Dr Tauber if I would make it to a wedding in May, and he would try to give me the best answer he could which was yes , most likely, "you should be ready by then, partly." It wasn't completely healed in May but everything looked great so I wore a large brimmed hat to the wedding and used the steri strips. Thank goodness for those flesh colored steri-strips! My family could not believe that everything looked so good after they had seen the above picture of the deep, open defect. I couldn't believe I had made it to this point. There is , I would say, a usual amount of care that has to be done throughout the process. For example, there are drsg changes for a while, and some bleeding post -op which needed to be covered. It wasn't a lot of bleeding, just normal kindof seeping and slight dripping because of all the flap tissue which needed to be there. I felt the area near my eyebrow the most and sometimes toward the tip of my nose, otherwise the pain was very minimal and I only took Tylenol. I had follow up visits at first weekly, then every 2 weeks, then monthly until the next procedure. Then this pattern repeated. I did not have any complications whatsoever. I did call the office a few times, and even Dr Tauber one weekend. Everyone promptly answered my phone calls more than adequately addressed my concerns and set me at ease. This means a lot when you are at home and something does't look right or you feel you may have done something to the site. I have better pictures somethwere which show my nose now. I had the first surgery about 1 year ago. Just recently I went back for a 4 month f/u and asked about getting further "smoothing" of the tiny, hardly visible scarring. I think because it was on my fair skin colored nose it was slightly visible to me and I don't like to wear foundation make-up. Microdermabrasion was the perfect thing to get the skin looking even smoother and I'm glad I opted for that. Even though friends and family did not notice what I noticed at all. They were amazed at how well the surgery turned out in terms of getting my nose back. Thank you Dr. Tauber. If you live in or around the Albany area, or can travel here. I highly recommend Dr. Tauber for this procedure! I actually looked forward to each phase of progress because of his encouragement and way of explaining things in such a positive and optimistic spirit!

Somehow I immediately felt I was at the right...

Somehow I immediately felt I was at the right place and put my trust in Dr's Deluca and Tauber.
After a traumatizing excision of the basal cell lesion on my nose which was done by another specialist Dr. Tauber offered to see me that very same day to explain how he would proceed in filling this hole by doing a forehead flap surgery. My anxiety vanished and I felt hopeful. Both Dr's were very professional and caring. Dr Tauber explained everything very well and also made me feel like a person rather than another patient. The office staff and surgeons operate as a team and demonstrate the utmost professionalism and high standards while each one is thoughtful and truly caring. Dr Tauber :I can't say enough about how he performed the surgery, (which requires several trips to the O.R.) and how encouraging he was during the difficult process. The result is astounding and I am thrilled to have the shape of my natural nose despite losing so much tissue. Thank you Dr Tauber!!

If I was having a down day for a follow up visit I always came away feeling encouraged and my worries lifted because of Dr. Tauber's bedside manner, and knowledge;which gave me confidence. he was very personable and at ease which transferred over to me the patient. Usually a person feels they are being rushed through a doctor's appointment but not at all with Dr Tauber, even though I know he had a busy schedule. His genuine compassion mixed with his obvious yet gentle confidence, for me, was very reassuring. The surgery I had was difficult but I feel that together with my surgeon we made it through with flying colors. I have a very satisfying and beautiful end result thanks to Dr. Tauber.
