Breast reduction surgery is something I contemplated for 20+ years. I just retired last year, and this surgery was the first thing on my "to do" list. My only regret is not having it done 20 years ago. What a relief!...and literally, a huge weight off my chest! I highly recommend it. With all the cutting that had to be done, I expected a lot of pain, and yet there was simply soreness and no pain to speak of (and I have a low tolerance for pain). I recuperated quickly, and every day I am thankful that I made this decision.

Why I made the decision to have breast reduction surgery?...Through the past 25 years or so, I have gained weight and lost weight (40-50 pounds at a time), and the price I paid was that my breasts eventually began sagging, probably as much from weight gain/loss as from age. I refused to buy bras that actually fit and would instead squeeze myself into poorly fitted bras. Besides that discomfort, there was the heavy weight of my breasts pulling on my bra straps and making shoulder indentations, there were nagging backaches, redness under my breasts because of their sagging, and the weight of my breasts on my chest made sleeping in any position uncomfortable. I knew several other women who had had breast reduction surgery, and they were all very pleased with the results. My gynecologist had even had the surgery and told me she was back to work in just a very few days. I just had to get up the nerve to take the next step and make the initial appointment. After that, it was smooth sailing. I have had surgeries before, but I get a little queasy just thinking about blood. I even tried to watch a video of breast reduction surgery but couldn't bring myself to watch the whole thing. On the day of my early-morning out-patient surgery, though, I was cool and calm because I wanted this done so badly and I wasn't going to let anything stop me. My doctor reassured me that all would be well, and it was. Even at the age of 64, and going through a 3-hour surgery, I was released to go home in the early afternoon. I expected a lot of pain, but there was none...just soreness. I took my pain medications as prescribed and didn't miss any but never quite felt I had to have them. I was also on antibiotics. All in all, I am extremely pleased with the results. I would do this surgery over in a heartbeat. As I mentioned previously, my only regret is that I didn't have it done sooner, like many years sooner. But even at my age, it was basically a very easy surgery, and I bounced back quite well in a very short period of time. I was driving the following week and was just careful not to lift anything heavy or overdo for a few weeks. Other than that, I was thrilled to finally be free of the heaviness on my chest and the weight pulling on my shoulders. I am thankful every day for making this decision!
