Mid-March update
Thank you all for your kind words! I took some photos in mid-March to show where I stand now. I'm still loving my results! There are mornings I look at my reflection and can't believe it's me I'm looking at. My bra size decreased from 38 to 36 with the back bra roll fat removal, and I went down from 14/16 to between a 10 and a 12, depending on the pants brand. I'm doing what I can to maintain my results through consistent exercise and strength training along with a healthy diet with plenty of protein to build lean muscle.
Fantastic Experience with Dr. Marten at Elite Body Sculpture in Nashville
Dr. Marten and his team at Elite Body Sculpture in Nashville could not have been kinder or more patient. It was a pleasant experience from the initial consultation to the procedure days to the follow-up appointments. Procedures of this kind are a real investment, and after doing my research and finally meeting Dr. Marten in person, I truly felt that I was in fantastic hands.
After having my daughter in 2017 and working so hard through diet and exercise only to keep the "mom pouches" -- on top of and below my navel -- and some new stubborn back fat, my self-esteem was as low as it had ever been. I mean, I carried new life in me for 41 weeks and gave birth to the healthiest, most beautiful 9-pound baby you'd ever seen. I should have felt like a superhero, but I was as defeated as ever. Undergoing elective medical treatment was not a cheap option, especially for two middle-class working parents of a toddler, but I have a loving husband who was on board with it if they made me feel as beautiful as he thought I already was. (He's a keeper.)
I chose to have Dr. Marten work on my abdomen and flanks, back bra roll, and inner thighs. My procedures were broken into two days because the work on my abdomen was pretty extensive. (I learned that it can be dangerous to remove more than a certain volume of fat before risking adverse reactions in a patient.) Both times, the attending nurses were unbelievably kind and entertained conversation with me while I was pretty loopy on the table. One of them told me she just had her upper arms done by Dr. Marten when I noticed her compression garment under her scrubs. That was a good sign, that she knew he did good work. Both procedures started at 7:30 a.m., and I was at home in bed sleeping it off by 1 p.m. Dr. Marten called me both evenings to check on me, which I thought was very considerate.
The first two weeks of healing was uncomfortable but never unbearable (once you got past removing the surgical tape -- yikes!). Do yourself a favor and lie down before you remove your compression garment for that first shower. I remember stumbling with dizziness from the bathroom to the bedroom, but Hubs tells me I passed out.
I took two days off work for the abdomen procedure and one day off for the back bra rolls and inner thighs. I'm still working from home due to COVID-19, so that was pretty convenient to be able to stay in loose, comfy clothing. I was able to get on the treadmill for slow walks about 2-3 days following, and I got back to weight training two weeks after each procedure. Strenuous exercise like running took a little bit longer to return to, since the impact from my strides hurt without additional compression under my workout clothes. But I'm back to normal and hitting the pavement now with no discomfort.
I am so pleased with my results three months out. At the end of it all, I just wanted to look at myself and not feel ashamed by my appearance. Now I'm wearing more form-fitting tops and trying on swimsuits and liking what I see for the first time in years. I haven't done much shopping in-person because of the pandemic, but I definitely need smaller jeans. As I said, I acknowledge this is a real investment, and I continue to put in the work through diet and exercise to maintain my results. Working out is a lot easier. Far less "chub rub" between my thighs. I can now hold a plank without looking down and seeing skin hanging from my stomach.
I cannot wait to see how my body continues to improve as it heals further.
