Finally Going Through with It!

Hey everyone!
I have wanted an African American Rhinoplasty since 2012 but never had the courage to go through with it because as we know in the black community it is very taboo. Every year that I have wanted to get a nose job I would talk myself out of it. Well, it's been almost 7 years and the fact remains, I STILL WANT A NOSE JOB!! I set up a consultation for December 19th, 2018 with Dr. Kim Patrick Murray in Miami. I want a base reduction, add more height to my nose and refine my tip. I am looking to get the procedure done in May when I have a break from Graduate School.
I will be sure to keep you all updated.

Hi, how did your consultation with Dr. Ghersi go? I went to a consultation this past week with Dr. Ghersi.

Dr Ghersi was very nice and knowledgeable. I really liked him but his thoughts and my goals were a little off. He does great work but I decided to go with Dr Bared.

hi. I had a nose job and im black. if you do decide to go through with it, I would recommend you don't narrow your nose (alar base reduction) because it will yield a scar. that [RS bleep] will mess with your head.. you likely will stand in front of the mirror for hours wondering if its noticeable to everyone else. if you decide to do it, maybe just have the surgeon deal with de-fattening your tip. also make sure the doctor has done several African American rhinoplasties. because our skin is thick and often heals poorly and is prone to developing scar tissue. you have to have a surgeon that understands that intimately. but my real advice is for you to leave it alone completely. I understand your desire to look prettier or for refinement, but at the end of the day, surgery will not improve your self esteem. take it from someone that's been through it. much love.

also keep in mind that your general nose shape will not change. some of the inspiration photos you've posted are nowhere near your natural nose shape. if you get the surgery, it'll really just look like a reshaped version of the nose you have now. it won't be ultra slim and refined like the photos you've posted.
as you can probably tell, my personal position is that you don't do the surgery. your face is balanced. it's beautiful.
maybe try a non surgical nose job first? with love, girlie..

the only reason I comment on this site is to pass on information that is normally not stressed by doctors or by other people who have undergone these procedures. it is a fact that any time a doctor makes an incision, a scar is the result. now, depending on the quality of the incision and subsequent care and healing type of your skin, the scar could very good and unnoticeable, somewhat good, mediocre or bad. this is a risk. and I stand by what I've said previously in my comments.

Thanks for your reply. After careful consideration and more doctor consultations I realize I do not want my nose to be exactly the above photos, just a more refined nose. So I agree with your comment on that. I am still going through with the nose job.
Thank you "girlie."

im excited for you and I wish you the best of luck, truly.

Sometimes one may need to narrow the nostrils inorder to achieve balance. I actually had my nostrils narrowed n I hv minimal scarring not bad at all. It just depends on the surgeon u choose.

Consultation update!

My consultation with Dr. Kim Patrick Murray On December 19th was rescheduled for December 26th, 2018. Dr. Kim Patrick Murray was very kind and informative. I was not exactly sold on the "after" of the computer simulation. I didnt notice a major difference of the before and after.

On January 18th, 2019 I had a consultation with Dr. Ghersi. He was very informative and answered ALLL of my questions. The staff were very kind and were so helpful. The computer simulation was exactly what I wanted, not so noticeable but well worth my money.
Im certain that Dr. Ghersi is the surgeon I am going with.

Sidenote:
After consideration the "dream" noses that I added in the first update is not attainable due to the limitation of my thick skin. I realize that nose would not even fit my face. I love my nose just want to add more definition and create more symmetry and femininity to my face.
