Afraid of How Permanent Damage After a TCA Peel

ORIGINAL POST

I chose a self administered at home treatment...

I chose a self administered at home treatment because of the low cost. I am unsure of the outcome because skin is still healing.

I have olive complexion. I did an at home 20% TCA Peel 2 days ago to treat sun damage and fine lines. My skin frosted lightly, I rinsed it off...applied triple antibiotic ointment and lotion.

It turned brown IMMEDIATELY that night. Is it normal for my skin to be so brown so soon after the peel? Did I cause permanent scarring or skin color damage? I am afraid that the skin under the burn will also be brown and look totally different from the rest of my face....please help me! I have Photos!

Be very careful with the sun, even when driving with the sun rays through the windows. Try to restrain from cooking over a hot stove as much as you can. I had same peel done in a Derma. Office and was not warned about the possible hyperpigmentation after affects. I am Asian with medium skin color and that is why my skin resulted in hyperpigmentation after the TCA peel, now I have dark large spots as opposed to acne scars which is just as bad. Even so, Caucasian Women can also be prone to hyperpigmentation if the skin is not thoroughly cared for. Use lots of sunblock and stay away from heat!

Well I had a chemical peel done 1/27/12 at first it looked wonderful tell 2/6/12 I woke up that morning looking like a cabbage patch doll with a bad burn. I was never told by the lady who did my peel to stay away from any heat infact she put me an infer-red machine to detox right after and I now have 2nd degree burns on my face and neek this has been an absolute nightmare!the worse part of it all not once has this lady called me regarding any kind of concern, I have made all calls to her and her comment is well call me when your ready to proceed with the treatments. To many unprofesional people selling tca peel with no license and selling also industrial tca acid. Be careful with website that look unprofessional and do not have a phone number or a physical business address. You will burn your skin!

This is exactly why you NEVER purchase skin care products on the internet, at department stores, or in a CVS. You really need to go to a licensed skin care specilist/aesthetician.

Ugh it's so annoying trying to read these forums with people continually chastising others for at home procedures, instead of contributing something helpful or at least comforting. Don't you think she knows this by now after what happened?

Hello all home peelers, I would just like to say that I have been doing my own home peels for over a year now and I have never had any residual adverse side effects. As a matter of fact I just got done completing a peel, a week before I used Lactic Acid peel for a prep, then the day of the peel, I cleansed cleansed and degreased my face well this gives you a more even peel, then I used 2 coats of Jessners solution followed up with 2 coats of 25% TCA, I did 2 coats of Jessners to my neck and decolletage and 1 coat of 15% TCA. I don't wash it off, I put a light moisturizer on the 1st day then I begin with an occulsive ointment vasoline, antibiotic oint ect, I wash gently about 2 times a day never rub your skin and keep the ointment on, my face never looks the same color everywhere, don't worry about that, sleep on your back, and don't pick at your face. I have built up to this degree of chemicals, started baby and have moved up. I am an RN who has investigated all aspects of chemical peels and which ones work best for what you want, don't listen to these people who down this, if you educate yourself on all aspects type, pre, during and post peel care you will be fine, start small and build up and these people are no smarter than you, they may not even know what their talking about, maybe they just like to blow their own horn, YOU become educated before doing this, lot's of information out there and you'll save yourself thousands of dollars too. Good Luck home peelers!

Post peel care is very important to avoid/reduce Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) for asian skin. Use tretinoin and a bleaching cream for postcare treatment for 1-2 months after peel.
