Subcision Results - Before/After

So I’ve had about 4 Subcision treatments done to the exact same part of my face each time. Right after the treatment my face is swollen. After about 3 days the swelling goes away and I have like these bumps under the skin where the treatment was done. In my experience, the results have not been permanent. Each time the scars reappear after about 2-3 weeks. Doc tells me it’s the underlying scar tissue reforming and pulling the scars back down creating a depression in the skin. The doc does an amazing job with the procedures, I guess it’s just my scars not cooperating. Anyways, this has been my experience, if u got any questions, ask away.

What if you try filler along with subcision? Will it stop the scar tissue from taking hold again?

Good question, I asked my doc the same and he said for now he wants to try without the filler so I can see the true results of Subcision that way I can tell if it’s really working or not. If I were to use filler, I wouldn’t know if the Subcision worked until the filler fades away a couple months down the road. Also doc tells me the filler can be pretty expensive, around $500 a syringe, but since I have done about 4 treatments and seen no permanent results I might go with the filler soon to try it out. But to answer your question, yes the filler will prevent the scar tissue from being pulled back down, but just as long as the filler is there. After a couple months the filler starts to dissolve (or whatever it does), and the scars will go back to normal. At least in my experience, you could have a better outcome.

Hi. In about two weeks, I'm scheduled to have my third subscision I'm nervous because although I've had definite improvement on one side of my face, the other side seems to be caving in where there is a deeply-pitted scarred area. I've tried filler there, but my body seems to absorb it within days. I'll post pictures at a later date.. Also, I just to reply to tell you the that on your post-op picture your skin looks greatly improved. Seriously -- there's a dramatic difference for the better.

Thanks for the detailed response. I recently had subcision done with filler (1 month ago). My dermatologist said that sometimes users need to get the filler re-done maybe an Year later, but in some cases it’s nt required if skin produces natural collagen. My total treatment cost was around 900$ I think.(she used half syringe) I did see one dermatologist team at a different place(Stanford) and they do subcision without filler. I think everyone’s body responds differently, so it’s just hard to tell :(

I am in Bay Area so things can be more expensive here.

I might just have to try the filler along with Subcision. I’m sure you heard the tearing of the scar tissue when your dermatologist was cutting the tissue while performing the Subcision, well in my case I literally hear the same amount of tearing every time lol. Apparently my scars keep re-attaching and pulling them back down even after multiple treatments, so the filler, in my case, might have to be mandatory to prevent them from being pulled back down and to keep the scars raised. When you got the filler did they do it right after the Subcision? And did you also get like these slightly raised lumps on the areas where you had the treatment done?

Ohh I see. Wish there was a simple way to stop them from taking hold again. Yes I had some swelling for about a week post treatment, I ate arnica Montana for quicker healing. You might call the swelling as ‘lumps’ in few areas. E.g. on side of my forehead, but they resolved in a week.

Try submission plus suction. Look it up. Lot's of foreign research papers on its efficacy.

What kind of scars do you have..What are they called.

I have ice pick, rolling, and boxcar scars on my face, however I only had my boxcar and rolling scars treated with the Subcision. On my temple area I have boxcar scars and on my cheekbone I have mainly rolling scars with some boxcar. Hope this helps.

I have an atrophic scar on my forehead due to being hit by a car when I was younger. It is a weird unsightly shape and I have been to see a board certified dermatologist who suggested that fraxel laser would be best to improve the appearance of it as it is sunken in but after reading some of these reviews on how laser damages the skin i've been put off. I want a non abrasive treatment done but not sure about subcision and if it would make it look worse than it already does. Your post helped a little so thank you because I'm starting to give up hope that this is something that can't be helped and maybe I should just be happy with the skin I'm in until I meet someone new who sniggers when they see it or looks at me like i've killed their cat or something.

I’m in the same situation as you. I was going to try lasers but after seeing people’s experiences with them and how they can damage your skin, I just decided to stick with Subcision. With your case I really don’t think it can be possible for Subcision to make a “sunken” scar worse because with Subcision, no matter what, the “sunken” part of your skin will raise either due to swelling from the actual procedure itself or the Subcision did its job and raised the depressed area by severing the underlying scar tissue which in turns raises the “sunken scar”. Now even if the Subcision doesn’t work, the actual procedure itself will leave you will some swelling and after a couple days, once the bruising goes away, you will have slight lumps under the surface which kind of level out depressions in the skin so I think you should try Subcision. I think it will really help.

I have had two subcisions and some scars get tethered again. What you should do, is to ask for fillers. If you can afford it, ask for fat grafting using your own body's fat. Research this procedure here on Real Self, performed by board certified plastic surgeons, as this is a procedure that most dermatologic surgeons do not do. They seem to stop at subcision and/or fillers like Juvederm, etc.

There is a thread somewhere on acne.org's community forums about using manual suctioning cups after subcision to prevent the scars from retethering. This is a cheaper method than adding fillers.
April 11, 2019
I've been researching to start my venture into subcision, etc. There's only one dermatologist that mentions giving "free" suction cups so to speak after subcision procedures. I'll have to look into him a bit more.

You should optimize for finding the best dermatologist not for the one that will give you free suctioning cups, because you get buy them online cheaply.

Thank you. I'm down to 2 in my area.

I think your after 2 weeks photo looks fabulous. If that’s the results, It looks to me to be 70-85% improvement

So its $200 per treatment? how long is the procedure for?
Thinking of going to this doctor. I know the Consultation is $100. Does he only do Subscision or adds fillers or prp or case by case scenario?
Thank you, I am also in the Dfw area

Would love to see another photo now since your surgery as the two week one compared to the original one to me was vastly improved around your temple area alone. could you post another one now for us?
