Vi Peel Didn't Go Like the Website Said, but Was Worth It!

WORTH IT$150

I have to admit what drew me in was the research I did on the product's website. The before/after photos; even the instructional video; that made this peel look like no pain, lots of gain!

The best price I found in my area was a package deal, $500 for two peels. I just didn't want to spend the money. So what does any discerning, informed consumer do? Go to ebay. My neighbor used to work for a Dermatologist, so I figured if I had an emergency I could call on her. Otherwise, how hard could it be to give yourself a chemical peel?

I timed out my peel so that the worst peeling days (3 & 4 according to the website) would coincide with days I knew I didn't have to leave the house. After all, how bad could it be? The day-by-day photos on the website were VERY misleading. That lady looked like all she did was remove her makeup.

I am a 37 year old woman of Italian descent who has admittedly enjoyed my time in the sun.....

Day 1: The website said after the 1st pass over your face, the peel numbs the skin and that there's no pain after this. Lies. It stung, it was uncomfortable. Not unbearable, but not comfortable. You leave the product on for a minimum of 4 hrs or overnight if you can bear it. I washed it off at the 4 hr. mark. My face was already appeared sunburnt.

Day 2: Skin started feeling very tight and was very dark brown in color. Not exactly fit for public. The website said make-up could be applied on this day. My skin was so brown and dry and crusty my makeup just made my face look purple. At this point every time you talk or make a facial expression you feel it. Like your face is gonna crack and fall off. Which you will wish it did by day 3.

Day 3: Let the peeling begin. Which,by the way, happens nothing like the website says. At this point your damaged top layer of skin is very brown (if you're caucasian) and begins to loosen and peel around your mouth first. That is typically where the most of my sun damage shows up for some reason. You are advised from ever peeling the skin. Your only comfort during this time as you literally have sheets of skin hanging off your face is the cuticle scissor. Otherwise you would go insane with the tickling and the itching as your skin peels/heals at the same time.

Day 4: More of the same, just seems slower than the day before. I think this was the day I absolutely had to do the grocery shopping and I wore a hat and sunglasses and still felt like everyone was staring at me. I looked like a burn victim, as the area around my mouth had fully peeled, with fresh pink skin showing and the rest of my face was dark brown.

Day 5: Still peeling, only now I'm starting to wonder if it will ever be over. I couldn't imagine having to work outside the home during this time. My children were so enthralled with the entire process. Everyday was like a new adventure. Oooo Mom, look at your face now. MOMMMM, you have a big piece hanging off, can I pick it?! NOBODY TOUCH MY FACE! I even had to slap my husband's hand.

Day 6: Light at the end of the tunnel. I have to admit at this point I was "so over it" and all that was left was my cheekbones and a bit of forehead and hairline. My skin was less tender at this point so I spent more time washing to encourage the rest of the skin off. Ta-DAAA! By mid-day I was presentable. Skin was fresh, pink and glowing like a newborn baby!

Day 7: As your PH levels get back normal, you may have a couple of whiteheads pop up, no biggie. Your skin has just been traumatized. Over the next 2 days or so I had a couple of "dry spots" around my mouth especially. I just kept piling on the moisturizer.

Day 8 and beyond....
I have been told I'm so pretty, my hair looks great, even my husband (who was out of town for the worst of the peeling) said "Wow, your skin looks amazing!"

With all that said, I would recommend it. It's not for the faint of heart, and it doesn't go anything like is advertised. But definitely worth it!

You are not a licensed medical professional and therefore the results that you received were unexpected and abnormal. The application of the peel is to cease when the skin reaches a certain level- you did not know what to look for and clearly applied the peel beyond this point. What happened to you is NOT a normal reaction.

My results/progression was exactly as hers and I had it done professionally for $300 by someone who does 8-15 Vi peels per day. Plus I did a ton of research watching a dozen professionals perform this in news/video/interview clips. So, I don't understand what you are talking about that her results were unexpected and abnormal. Also, I was told by Dr.Kalil's office (the creator of the peel) is that the whole amount of product is applied at one time, there is no diluting/prepping % and NO neutralizer/buffing agent needed. It's not the same as a TCA, etc. where types of 'frosting' must be watched, then neutralized. It's applied, you let it dry, go home, apply the pads each night for 2 nights, that's it. I'm not being mean, but you obviously don't know what you are talking about. Are you a professional performing these?

I don't know who you are, but you are definitely full of crap. I too had the Vi peel done to me 7 months ago and what JerseyCarolinaCaliGirl described is EXACTLY what happened to me. It did not go AT ALL nice and simple and pain free like my dermatolgist said it would. I was angry that I was not told the TRUTH about what to expect and at the last minute I had to call in sick for work for the next week because there was no way I could go out in public like that. It was painful and burned, my skin was very tender until day 7 or 8, and it was HELL, but yes, the results were worth it. my skin DID look like a newborn baby afterward and I was very happpy with the results, Just pissed off that I was not told the truth about the process.

You are correct. I'm not a "licensed medical professional". I did, however, follow the detailed written instructions exactly. No where was it written to cease application of the peel. On the contrary, you are directed to apply the entire contents of the peel on your face AND keep it on for a minimum of 4 hours or overnight if you can tolerate it. I can appreciate the value of having the supervision of a professional. I want to make clear that I did EXACTLY as the instruction & video online directed.

HOW AND WHERE DID YOU BUY IT IF YOU ARE NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL?

I recently had the peel applied by a licensed professional, and although my skin was not as discolored as described here, the entire process has been EXACTLY as described in the above post. (And I have had 2 TCA peels over the last ten years so I have experienced more severe chemical peels, therefore, I am not over dramatizing.) Bottom line- I found the application as the literature promised and not at all unpleasant- except for the smell. But the healing is not as described in the literature so this post is extremely useful when planning for work and subsequent activities. I looked extremely sun burnt the day I had the peel applied and went to work the following day, but the peeling process was MUCH longer and more difficult to hide than described in all literature- I could not go in to work day 3-6 due to extreme flaking and discoloration of skin. Ultimately, I also agree with this post that it is worth it, particularly compared to a deeper peel.

I have purchased 4 subsequent Vi Peels online and applied them myself. Each was a little different, some felt more strong than others prob due to skin condition or other factors, but this is an excellent maintenance peel. I would recommend having the peel applied professionally before considering self application.

I am no medical professional either. I went to a licensed aesthetician who applied the VI Peel. It is only the beginning of Day 2, but I seriously look like a burn victim! I look like I have splotchy patches of freckle farms across my face, and I still look extremely sunburned. This is going to be difficult to conceal when I go to my parent's house tomorrow for the holidays. I guess I could always go as Rudolph the Red-FACED Reindeer. I am sure hoping this is worth it. Thank God I don't go back in to work until the 30th!

I just had a VI peel December 18th 2009 performed at Dr. Armando Soto's office by Amanda. I had these dark circles on my cheeks I don't know whether they were from heredity or birth control but they had to go. I felt like my face was on fire on day 5 and had no peeling on my face until day 7. Amanda was just a phone call away and gave me all the attention that \i really needed. Don't be alarmed because I look great now on day 10. The burning is gone and my skin hasn't looked this great since I was in my 20's. Yes I am almost 40 and my money was well spent. I have two more peels to go and am very happy that I did it. No matter how bad you want just don't peel it, rub it or disturb it! A piece of fresh aloe from the fridge will make you feel like you are in heaven. I was also sensitive to the moisturizer given so I used a cocoa butter stick until that shiny skin was gone.

Hi 10k! I'm nearing 40 as well. I did my first Vi peel 6-7 weeks ago. I was told I can do another, but my results were minimal. I'm considering additional Vi or trying a low % (safe) TCA. Have you researched the others? Why did the doctor choose this one for you (other than being expensive)? I'm guessing you might be doing this for sun damage...mine was for hormonal acne happening, but I wanted to lessen my little crows feet and thicken the skin under my eyes for better collagen growth. Do you think the skin under and around your eyes looks younger?
