I had laser lipo done seven weeks ago today. I am already down two sizes and 11 lbs. I had my chin, upper and low abs, hips, back, inner and outer thighs and knees done. The procedure was done with IV sedation and a local anesthetic. It took five hours to complete. The procedure itself was not really painful at all. I was in an out and I do remember some pressure here and there but it was not an unpleasant experience.

Because I had so may areas done, my recovery was a bit longer than I anticipated. This was also my first surgery ever, so I had no clue what to expect. I was very sore and numb all over and very bruised. I also had a lot of drainage from my legs initially. It took almost a month for the bruising to go away. Now, the soreness is completely gone but I do still have a little swelling in my lower back and light numbness in my abdomen, back and legs.

My chin is still swollen as well. I am told I can expect to see greater results in my chin at the 3-4 month mark. The results in my legs, stomach, etc are incredible. I had no idea I would drop two sizes so fast.

I was concerned about the lumps, bumps and tightness in my legs initially, but I did massaging and used a heating pad daily and now everything is smoothing out nicely.

Overall it was a great experience and I am more than happy with my results. I have had two follow-up appointments thus far and the care post procedure is just as thorough and the pre-procedure visits.

Did the lumps and bumps go away? How much time off did you take from work?

Hi Amy, Yes the lumps and bumps are gone! It has been 10 months since my surgery and I am more than pleased! Everything has smoothed out nicely! I had the procedure done on a Thursday and I missed a total of 7 days of work (with two weekends in there) so I was out 11 days total.

When your chin swelled did it look uneven in certain areas? I noticed that one side of my chin barely had any swelling and the other side looks puffy on the jawline and right below the jawline, it's more obvious when i turn my head to look over my shoulder I can see a little bit of wrinkling right under the jawline and also a deep dimple, that when I pull the skin it goes away. Did you notice any imperfections initially. The right side looks great and the left side I'm hoping is just uneven swelling. I noticed from day one the right side tightened right up, and the left side looks looser near the neck, I am two weeks post op. Also did you have any professional massages (lymphatic drainage) or ultra-sound treatments? If so, did they help? I do have slight nerve damage, I am not able to smile showing all of my teeth but am hopeful that it's only temporary, which i have been told by my doc that it will come back over time. I had trouble talking initially but that seems to have come back, just waiting on my smile to get better. It feels really tight underneath and hard to look up or tilt my head back. How long did it take for your neck/chin area to look normal?

My chin was very swollen and bruised at first and half of my face, mouth down, was paralyzed for about 6 weeks. My husband said I looked like Elvis :-) At about 8 weeks post procedure, my chin and face was perfectly fine. I know I experienced uneven swelling in my inner thighs but it all smoothed out. I did not do any professional massage treatments, but I did used a hand massage everyday on my inner/outer thighs and I used the heating pad to help swelling on my legs, stomach and lower back. I also elevated my legs everyday for the few couple weeks to help with swelling because I had a lot swelling in my knees, calves and thighs. I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your response. The paralyzed lip is probably the most frustrating for me. I feel a little better about it, since you experienced a similar problem and all the feeling came back and everything looks normal. Did some parts underneath your chin appear puffy almost like the fat is still there? I also have puckering on my jawline that I hope smooths out. Did your skin on your face/chin contract right away or did it take 8 weeks to notice the tightening?

Yes I was very worried about the paralysis at first but it eventually went away. After the swelling went away, my chin did tighten up - have you been wearing the head wrap - I wore mine for the first 10 days straight and then at night for another week or so - that really helped with the swelling. But yes, it did look worse before it got better.

Also, I saw your other question - I had the Cool Touch Cool Lipo with suction.

I wore my head wrap religiously for the first 7 days and at my 1 week post op the doctor advised me to wear it only at night since he thought that might be why I had problems with my speech/smile. He said that the head wrap could be pressing on the nerves and adding to the problem....said he did not go anywhere near the nerves that affect the smile or speech and it was not anything he did but rather the head wrap...not sure I totally believe this. He thought everything tightened up on my chin/jawline by my one week post op and thought maybe I had swelling in my lymph nodes on the side that is puffy, I didn't turn my head to show him the wrinkles. I showed him the dimple and he said it was just the swelling from the lymph node causing it to look puckered. He put me back on antibiotics for 10 days. I finished my antibiotics today and the puffiness is still there. I have an appointment next week and will see if maybe I am still swollen. I'm just hoping I didn't make a huge mistake....your face you can't really hide. If everything smooths out and tightens up like my right side and my smile isn't permanently distorted I will be happy:) They should be more honest with recovery time. They said I would be completely healed in 2 weeks. He only removed 20cc's so I guess most people that have such a little amount removed heal quicker? It took less than an hour....I did feel a great deal of pain during the suctioning on the side that is still puffy. I am generally a slow healer and made the doctor and nurses aware of this prior to having the procedure. I am still tender and numb so chances are I am still swollen.

I had a total of 7500cc taken out everywhere - I do not know how much is from my chin. I seriously do not think the head wrap is the issue at all. My doctor said the head wrap helps reduce swelling and promote tightening - which I think it did. I have more photos I can e-mail you - send me an e-mail at traybay141@aol.com and I can send you some of my pics of my chin.

Did you notice initial swelling and uneven areas along the jawline? I noticed one side didn't swell very much at all and is now perfect, and the other side, has a deep dimple and looks puffy along the jawline and right below looks like the skin didn't tighten, but not sure if that is just swelling as I am comparing it to the right side which tightened up right away with no imperfections. The dimple is more noticeable when I turn my head to look over my shoulder, it looks kind of wrinkly underneath. I am two weeks post op. Did you notice imperfections in your chin area initially? Did you have smartlipo with suction?

I've been reading some of your posts and am wondering how are you doing? I had my smart lipo on my neck exactly 3 weeks ago and I have a big lump on the right side of my neck. I haven't been massaging and when I called the doctor she said that she could do a re-do but I think it's too early in the game. I also have a slight paralysis on the left side of my mouth. I've been wearing turtle necks to work and it's starting to get hot. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, sorry just read this. I still have the paralysis...it's either slightly better or I'm getting used to it. I have went to a neurologist and was told that it is most likely temporary and can take a long time to recover, sometimes 6 months to a year. It won't happen over night and that it will slowly improve. They don't think it's permanently damaged because I have some movement although it's slight. As far as how I look at 6 weeks post op....I haven't seen a drastic difference in how I looked at say 3 weeks. Actually from one day post op until now it's still the same shape, just less sore. It appears that I still have some swelling...the nurses don't really know if it's swelling, which isn't very reassuring. I am hoping that with time it will all even out. I didn't get any lumps or bumps really. One side of my jawline and underneath is still hard/stiff to the touch but you can't tell by looking at it. It is also still slightly numb to the touch....I have been getting ultra-sound treatments on it and I notice a slight improvement. The other side isn't stiff at all, and is puffy underneath the jawline so it's either fat that didn't get suctioned or it's still swollen. I do remember feeling pain during the procedure in the area that looks swollen. I also remember that at one day post op when they took the bandage off it was there, and I said something and they brushed it off like it was just swelling....so I can only pray that it gets better. Some days I find it looks like it not as puffy, but even when it goes down it still looks slightly off....like little waves in it. It appears like the jawline is asymmetrical but I think it's because one side is stiff and one side is puffy....when the stiff side softens it might match the other side more.

I am wondering if you are still noticing the paralysis. I had smartlipo of the chin 5 days ago and have a paralysis of the lower left lip, most noticable when I laugh or try to smile. Much of the swelling has gone done and there is still some bruising, but I am most concerned about the paralysis and how long it may last. I am wondering if you have recovered yet? thanks...
