Braces off
On the 2nd May, I had my braces removed. Weirdly, I was sad they were coming off. However, for hygiene reasons it was probably best. I've given them a good brush and floss numerous times since.
So I went to the orthodontist yesterday, and didn't really know what to expect. I honestly had no visualisation of what they were going to be like, and I can say it was definitely not what I expected. Anyway, they used a tool to get the brackets off. It didn't hurt but I didn't like the cracking noise it made. I have slight scratches on some teeth, but most are fine. They did use a drill type machine to get the glue off. Then they fit the fixed retainers, both top and bottom. Finally, she took an impression for my removable retainers. Once that was all done I looked in the mirror. My teeth looked so different I couldn't believe it. Funny, one thing that came to mind was how long and big they looked. But great all the same.
Because I've had spacers most of my braces journey, I'm struggling to establish my bite. Plus, my false tooth is quite wide, so once the fixed retainers was put on the glue was getting in the way of my bottom teeth. She filed it down and now it's not so bad. I love my new smile but I'll be glad when my bite and teeth settle. Also my false tooth is a little shorter than my real tooth so ideally I would like to change this in the future. But I would want to whiten (my false tooth is quite yellow) my teeth first. But this affects my retainers. So I will need both a new fixed and removable retainer, and this will cost me. It's annoying all the knock on effects my false tooth has.
Today, I got my fixed retainers. That went well. However, I've put them in tonight and it seems one of my back teeth has moved already. So that was a little sore. It's settled down after an hour tho. The only other thing is, if I talk with my removable retainer in, it makes me gag. So hopefully I'll get use to that.
So all in all I'm very happy. I still think I need to improve things but this can wait. My teeth are certainly a major improvement and my orthodontist has done a great job.

Your teeth are looking great, how much longer to go? Also just curious do you feel self conscious in braces as an adult??
I think I should be out of them in April/May. It could be longer. I did feel self conscious at first but after 2 or 3 weeks I got use to them. In fact now I like them. I'm actually anxious for them to be removed as I don't want my teeth to move back. It's like a safety blanket. But at the same time I would like to eat what ever food I want. So it'll be mixed emotions when they are removed.
Thanks, not too far away till you are brace free!
How’s everything going? Do you have a debrace date yet??
Hi. Yes I had them removed yesterday. I honestly felt sad they had been removed. But I do love my new teeth. I'll post an update....
Wow good timing me! lol Look forward to seeing the final result!
Yes very good timing on your part. I've posted and thanks for commenting and showing an interest. Thank you

7th month in braces
Had a visit to the orthodontist today. As usual they changed wires and ligs. Very happy with my progress. Still got a few good months to go and will be getting class 2 elastic after my next visit. My lower teeth are off side so not central like my upper teeth are. It's only slight but may get resolved with elastics or may have to accept it. It wasn't something that bothered me tho. Also my front right tooth is slanted so needs to smoothed off. So I think that will make a real difference overall. I would say that's the thing which bothers me the most. My teeth are starting to get discoloured at the bottom too so need them cleaning really. Anyone done this with braces or do you wait till they are off?

I go get my normal cleanings with the braces on. In fact, there have been occasions when my Dentist has asked that I come back in three months rather than the normal 6 since the braces accumulate more plaque than usual. I say go for it!
I second that! I definitely have had to go more often for cleanings with the braces to make sure any plaque accumulation is taken care of.
Bit of a late reply but my appointment is in Feb so will get them all cleaned up. I've been using oral b 3d white and it had done a great job at cleaning them up in the meantime. I've very impressed.
How much did you pay and did your top teeth correct I have same issue
Hi I paid £3300 for top and bottom. This is all inclusive so follow ups and retainers are included in the price. I pay monthly interest free. I was always put off by the cost but a lot of people spend money on [RS bleep] and beer and they have nothing to show for it in the end. I'm still in class 2 elastics and im yet to see the results or them being pulled back so my bite is better but overall they are straight.
