I am sorry that this is going to be a long one, but I am hoping it will help someone out there, who is just starting out and is just as confused as I was.
I am 21 years old, I weigh about 127-130 pounds and my height is 5 feet 6.5 inches. I am a mother of my beautiful daughter who is a little over two years old, I breastfed her, and my breasts changed dramatically afterwards. I naturally wore a 32/34 DD before I had my daughter and now I am currently wearing a 32/34 B/C depending on the bra brand. I lost a lot of volume and not only do I have smaller breasts I also have loose skin on my breasts. I went from loving everything about my breasts, to looking at them and feeling devastated. I know a bit vain much, right? But, it is so true a woman’s breasts can considerably effect her self esteem; especially when I had nice breasts to begin with.
Enough with the background, let’s get into it....
Mistake: I booked my first consultation with a cosmetic surgeon and not a plastic surgeon.
I booked my first consultation with a doctor who was a cosmetic surgeon, he was American Board of Cosmetic Surgery certified, but none the less not a plastic surgeon. And, even though the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery states that their surgeons must perform 300 operations whereas the American Board of Plastic Surgery is 150 operations in the cosmetic field, I still question now even if ABCS has the correct training that ABPS surgeons have, or if it was just the cosmetic surgeon I saw.
Quick side note: I am so thankful that I asked questions on this site prior to my first consultation. Because if I hadn’t I might of never found out about the dual plane technique.
Alright so I go to my first consultation. I walk into the waiting room and it was so beautifully decorated, and I begin thinking that this guy must be legit (do not judge a doctor by his waiting room). I get called into his office and again it’s beautifully decorated with luxurious furniture, and I began talking to his assistant. He comes in a little later and I discussed my goals with him. He then had me go into his exam room, but before examining me he has his assistant take photos of my breasts, and I am given some type of paper vest thing to cover my breasts up, while I wait for the doctor to come into the room. He comes in and measures my breasts vertically, but no other measurements were taken. Afterwards I start to try on implants he suggests a 350cc high profile silicone implant, but I liked the 400cc high profile better. And, when I picked the 400cc he almost shook his head, it was strange to see his mannerisms of disapproval. But even more strange is next he tells me that I need a small anchor lift on my left breast or I could do a tear drop shaped gummy bear implants, due to the 2cm difference on nipple position with my right nipple being a little higher (my right breast is also smaller than my left) and the the small amount of ptosis. I never felt I needed a lift, my nipple is still quite a bit above my inframammary line. I began asking if a dual plane technique was an option for me, and he told me that we had already covered that option, at the time I didn’t really know what the dual plane technique was but I know now we most certainly did not cover it! He also told me that my stretch marks would not allow me to do the dual plane technique. But what I truly believe is he just does not know what the dual plane technique is. Next he pulls out his iPad and proceeds to show me my breast and draw lines showing me how asymmetrical my breasts are, but he never once fully examined me, or even looked to see if my inframammary lines are level with each other, which I later found out is important information to know when you have asymmetrical breasts as I do, because asymmetrical breasts with level inframammary lines can be corrected more easily, whereas a surgeon cannot change the position of your inframammary line, just the breasts. Afterwards I waited for my quote which came out to be $8,920 which isn’t too bad of a price for silicone breast implants with half of a lift, although considering his price for implants alone is $6,500 for the silicone. That was quite a large difference in price, especially since I was told I only needed the one side and it only needed to be a small one... I still question this! Needless to say I left that consultation feeling discouraged and that my left breast was deformed (which now I think is silly) I won’t be afraid to admit I actually cried after my consultation. He made me feel so awful about myself.
So, like a bird with a broken wing, I was very discouraged with this whole thing already and wanted to give up on the drive home. But I just knew in my heart that I wanted to find a surgeon who would perform the dual plane technique. I got home and start looking for more surgeons around my area, I booked two more consultations that day, but felt hesitant about it with the day I was having. I then started doing some research on the dual plane technique, the more I dug into it the more I knew my gut feeling was right. So I became like a dog with a bone, this was the technique I wanted, not a lift and I was determined to get it!
About a week later I was browsing through the surgeons on this site and saw Dr. Scott Sattler and decided to check him out. After flipping through a few of his photos I saw he had performed the dual plane technique, and his end results are sublime. I began doing more research on him, and just felt he had to be my surgeon. I called to schedule a consultation with him.
A few weeks past and it is consultation time with Dr. Sattler. I am at his waiting room and it is very nice, the receptionist is so friendly, after filling out paperwork I am called into a room, which resembled an actual room you would be in as if you were at your doctors, but nicer. I talk with his medical assistant and she is such a doll, just an incredibly sweet woman, made me feel very comfortable. Next Dr. Sattler comes in, I addressed my concerns and showed him what I was looking for, I could tell he was genuinely listening to me. After talking a little bit, they leave the room to have me change into a robe, not some “paper vest”! Dr. Sattler comes back in, he exams me and actually takes my measurements, checks to see if my inframammary lines are level and measures how much sagging I have (10-15%). He tells me I can do the dual plane technique and that I will need two different sized implants. We talk a little more, he leaves the room while I try on implants sizes with his medical assistant. We decided on 445cc moderate profile for my right breast and 375cc for my left. Next I spoke with the patient care coordinator and she worked with me a little on the price which is awesome. His whole team is so friendly and inviting. I left his office feeling more confident, relaxed and ecstatic!
The next day I booked my pre-op appointment and my surgery date.
At my pre-op appointment I paid the full $7,200 for my procedure. I highly recommend paying full up front if you can, it is such a relief to just be able to pay the money and then not have to worry about having to pay anything else afterwards, I can just focus on my procedure and recovery. I talked more with Dr. Sattler and his medical assistant, we went over the complications and risks, signed paper work, and took my before photos. Dr.Sattler also answered some more of my questions. We confirmed the size of my implants and I was told the implants type. I am getting Allergan Natrelle INSPIRA round smooth gel implants, which is exactly what I wanted. I also recommend reading the core study on your implants as it will give you more information about your specific implants.
And so here I am two days before my surgery feeling a little nervous and so excited, but I have the utmost faith in my surgeon, I know that he knows what he is doing.
Also, I promise to never write a short novel again, there was just so much I wanted to say. I really hope that this helps someone out there.

What is the dual plane technique?

The dual plane technique is a technique that surgeons can use to internally lift the breasts a little, but theu can only do it with mild to sometimes moderate ptosis.

Thanks so much. You gave me something else to look into.

Of course hun, that's why I started my review I want to help out others. I was devastated when I was told I needed a lift, I just didn't feel that my breasts were that saggy. Just a quick tip if the dual plane is something you're interested in be patient some surgeons don't perform it, and also make sure your surgeon has done one before, and had it turn out successful.

Well hang in there, ask some questions on this site, it really helped it. It's how I found out about the dual plane technique. A surgeon commented on one of my questions and told me I could be a candidate for one. Which I ultimately decided to do. (: And in a couple of months I'll be able to see my results. (:

Wow! I have had 2 tell me to do the same, mine are asymmetrical too, one size difference! Thanks for the post! Very informative

Oh this sounds like me, my first consultation was awful, he said I would definitely need a full lift on both breasts. I left & burst into tears. I've posted my photos on here & a few surgeons have mentioned the dual plane technique but a few have also said I'd need a lift :( I have another consultation in 2 weeks, so will mention the dual plane then. Your results are amazing, I'm really envious xx

Yours are no worse than mine and I didn’t get a lift and my surgeon never told me to get one, just that I was at the cut off. If I were you I would not get a lift. Get the augmentation and let them settle, if after 6 months to 12 months you’re not satisfied then go back in for a lift. Plus, you get better results breaking them up, I’ve been told this by many surgeons!

Thank you! (: I had a few tell me there was no way around not getting a lift and others who said I could get away with not doing a lift, and it can be so frustrating going through this whole process. My advice would be to research everything, and take your time. I would definitely try doing the implants first before a lift. The dual plane is such a great technique, but I do think if you decide you want to try for the technique, make sure the plastic surgeon you choose has performed multiple successful procedures using the dual plane level 2 or 3. Also during your consultations watch where the surgeon measures you. My first consultation the doctor only measured from my collar bone down to my nipples, but at my second, Dr. Sattler measured for my BWD, my nipple positions, and from my inframammary fold up to my nipple (to measure amount of breast sagging) he also checked to see if my inframammary folds are even. There was a big difference between the two appointments. Hopefully your journey won't be too daunting.

I said good bye to my itty-bitties this morning, and took a few last pictures. I had my surgery at 0700. Everyone was so friendly and professional. It was great. And my goodness does that anesthesia knock you out, you can't even fight it. Although, I didn't get to talk to Dr. Sattler after surgery, my boyfriend told me he came out right after and talked to him. He told me Dr. Sattler said everything looked even and my surgery went better than he thought it was going too. My chest does feel very tight and sore today. I think the flower embroidery on my surgical bra and band is cute. Ugh, I felt so bad when I got home, my daughter cried when I couldn't pick her up. I'm only posting the one post-op photo right now. Only because I need to lay down a bit and maybe take a little nap.

Well I couldn't sleep, so I thought I would talk a little more in depth about my surgery this morning. It started by me filling out paperwork in the waiting room, and then getting called back, all of the nurses are so sweet. I went to the bathroom and changed into a hospital gown and was also given a robe and some socks. Yes, I had to pee into a cup. I was given a paper bag to put my shoes and clothing in. Next I sat in a confortable chair while I answered few screening questions, I talked with the anesthesiologist, he was a ball, lots of jokes to help calm my nerves. Dr. Sattler came in next, I think he was more excited than I was this morning, but I would rather have an enthusiastic surgeon performing my surgery than a surgeon who acts like he doesn't care. Doctor Sattler is so great and so caring, I am so glad I chose him as my plastic surgeon. He marks my breasts, talks to me a little and let's me know he will be calling me tonight to check on me. I get my IV in my arm, and the nurse had a little trouble due to the scar over my vein, not a big deal. Then I am led to the surgery room, given an oxygen mask, lay down and I was out like a light. The next thing I remember is waking up in another room asking for my boyfriend, and then wondering if I had boobs. I was given some water, oxycodone and zofran since I was feeling nauseous. But the pain medicine wore off very fast on the way home (I live an hour away) the pain had fully come back. So I took a 600mg ibuprofen when I got home and that has helped with the pain so much more than the painkillers. I don't think I'll take the painkillers, and just stick with the ibuprofen, but we'll see. Other than that I just get to relax at home. There is a lot of pressure on my chest and tightness, but that is to be expected. My breasts don't feel hard, but they do feel firm. I am so excited to get to see my final results. (:

Just wanted to let you know your review is helping me a ton! I have the same asymmetry and my PS suggested 405 left and 445 right with moderate profile. It sounded too big to me but the more I read, I’m thinking I may go close. I also have a lot of empty tissue and was always big breasted before breastfeeding 3 kids. Do you happen to know what your BWD is? They are already looking amazing. Can’t wait to see your final results!

I am so glad that my review is helping you. (: I'm going to do my best to post everyday. Also, I don't know what my BWD is. I'll have try to remember to ask at my one week post-op appointment.

That would be awesome, thanks!
