Honest Review of my 10mm Genioplasty
Lots of pictures to show me before and afters along with healing. Since my teenager years I was always self conscious of my recessed chin and double chin. I started off with orthodontics for braces to see if it would improve. It didn’t. I was then referred to a maxillofacial surgeon as I considered jaw surgeon. I also met with a plastic surgeon about a chin implant and sliding genioplasty. I weighed all the pros and cons before I made the decision to do genioplasty. Part of it was cost I didn’t want to spend $30,000 on jaw surgery that wasn’t covered vs. genioplasty for $9,000. Results were not guaranteed. Jaw surgery has a lot more risk and much harder recovery. Since my issue was more cosmetic not pain or alignment issues, genioplasty was the way to go. I had this surgery done with a tummy tuck therefor recovery was very hard. The first 3 days were the worst. I didn’t want to eat and soft foods or barely drank anything. Took morphine around the clock and slept. I had difficulties breathing and swallowing from the tube being down my throat during surgery and the swelling from liposuction. I had bruising all over my face and neck for 2 weeks. One side of my face looked like it was hit with a baseball bat it was so swollen. I started to eat plain soft food around day 4-5. I stuck to powered mashed potatoes, broth, and apple sauce. I tried to introduce soup/smoothies but anything with too much flavour made me nauseous. I started to eat more like myself around 1.5 weeks. Soft chicken, mashed veggies, rice at around 2 weeks. I didn’t do anything hard until about week 3 as my teeth were still numb. I did lose feeling in my bottom teeth and numbness in my bottom lip. Numbness in my bottom lip went away around week 5. I still can’t feel 100% on my bottom teeth at 6 weeks post op. It’s much better and will most likely go away soon. Luckily I work from home. If I had to go to work I would have waited 10-14 days. I didn’t have energy back or feel “‘motivated” until week 3-4. My neck and chin are still tight and slightly lumpy from the liposuction. It may take a lot longer to heal. In the end I 100% recommend genioplasty and would do it over again in a heart beat. It was worth every dollar spent. I find myself looking in the mirror checking it out because I’m blown away with how much change it’s made in my life. I’m not self conscious anymore when I laugh, talk and look downwards. I love showing people the results. I feel more youthful. If your story is similar to mine, just do it. You will not regret it!
