Is yellow bloody discharge normal after breast reduction surgery 3 weeks out?

It is not unusual to have some discharge from the wound for a few weeks after surgery - especially if your surgeon has used an "anchor" pattern to perform the breast reduction (which means that there is an "inverted T junction" in the fold under the breast). This T junction is the most common site of delayed wound healing. The fluid may be from a seroma, which tends to be straw coloured. The main thing to look out for are redness and heat within the breast which may indicated infection.Even if the breast is not red or hot, you still should go back to your plastic surgeon to make sure everything is ok.I hope this helps.

At 3 weeks after a breast reduction you are still at the very early part of the healing and recovery process. While a fair anumber of large reduction volume patients will continue to have scant amounts of yellowish discharge from the incision lines (especially from the central portion of the fold beneath the breast), this is highly variable and should be evaluated by your surgeon. The soreness and sensitivity is a normal part of the recovery process and will improve in time. My advice is to inform your doctor of your drainage and at the very least stop in for a quick check by the physician or one of his staff.
