When Performing a Simple Bone Graft, Should a Dental Professional Always Offer a Choice of an Auto-graft?

or just guide the patient exclusively to sterilized cadaver bone? ... Thank you

Patients that require a bone graft are always given the option of synthetic, auto graft, or freeze dried cadaver bone.

In many cases now with the FDA cleared laser protocol, we avoid bone grafting entirely.

Choice of grafting material

The choice of grafting material should be based on the location of the defect, its size, surrounding biological elements, functional requirements, and cosmetic requirements. There is no 'always' choice of materials approach. Autogenous bone graft is certainly the 'gold standard' and has many advantages. But its use depends on the above factors and whether it offers specific benefits. A surgeon can provide you with the proper diagnosis and which grafting approach and materials is ideal.  See link below for more information on grafting.
