Despite his handsome looks and fit shape, actor Tom Cruise is one of the most renowned celebrity dental malocclusion cases that presents a quandary to fix. Because his upper front teeth were so misaligned both angulation and midline (his right front tooth appeared to be centered beneath his nose) on his ubiquitous photos and headshots, his extensive dental treatment has also been in the public eye for years- including the period he wore orthodontic appliances, and the seeming ever whiter cosmetic dentistry. While a slight midline discrepancy (i.e., drawing what is known as a "midsagittal line" down the center of the face) will not be noticed, studies have shown that a midline discrepancy or deviation of greater than 2.9 mm, will be noticeably unattractive. Therefore, teeth like Tom Cruise's will require more extensive dental rehabilitation just to appear somewhat normal or attractive. These options include orthodontics (Invisalign has become a great alternative to fixed braces), porcelain laminate veneers and/or porcelain crowns. Large discrepancies such as Tom Cruise's may never be able to fully corrected. However, the objective is to get the treatment result into the range (moving the midline to within 0-2.9 mm of center) to create an acceptable cosmetic result.

The Frenectomy will address the spacing between your front teeth if you have orthodontics, but will not change your smile very much.  The double lip appearance may be from a skeletal abnormality, but this cant be determined from the photo you have presented.  Seek the advice of a Board...
I am so glad you asked that question. The empty space is called a Deficient "Buccal Corridor". It does make the smile look esthetically incomplete. From your picture, you also appear to have protruded, large incisors. The esthetics of your smile can be improved with orthodontics to widen the...
