Hoping to get insurance approval for surgery to improve eye lid droop.

I am 40 years old and have Duane's Retractable syndrome (left eye does not turn out), had surgery at age 20 with some improvement. Now, at 40- I am hoping to have insurance approval for eye lid surgery due to droopy eye lids that to me, have an impact on my vision/peripheral vision. Anyone know if the Duane's diagnosis will help me get this through insurance?

Duanes syndrome

Hello, I don't think the Duanes syndrome will help your case for insurance approval as most commonly it is based on demonstration of visual obstruction with, photos and physical findings. Concomitant diseases typically are not taken into account for approval but should be strongly taken into account when evaluating patients. Depending on surgeries performed, some of the protective mechanisms for your eye may be faulty and changes in therapy may be required. I would strongly recommend an evaluation with an eye plastic surgeon. You can find local surgeons on the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeons website. Good luck!
