Can Dutasteride cause very heavy menstrual cycles in women?

I am taking 0.5 mg/day of Dutasteride to treat androgenetic alopecia and FFA. Can this medication cause very heavy (with clots) and prolonged menstrual cycles in women? I am not on a birth control pill but am using 2 other forms of birth control. Thank you.

Dutasteride can cause heavier periods in some but not all users (some actually have lighter and shorter). We seldom encounter this because most physicians rarely use finasteride and dutasteride without an oral contraceptive. But yes it can cause irregular and heavy menstrual cycles. Of course there are many other causes of heavier and prolonged periods so be sure to make an appointment with your dermatologist and other physicians to carefully review.

Finasteride and Dutasteride should not be used in women of child bear age. It can be used in post menopausal women
