Surgical Drains

The Surgical drains that are left after your procedure, are not removed until the fluid coming out of the drain is minimal, this will depend on the body and the healing process of the patient. They are usually removed around the first couple of weeks after your surgery. Contact your plastic surgeon for a post op visit, He/She Will be able to help you.

Drains after Tummy Tuck?

No, there is no “time limit” to have drains in place after tummy tuck surgery. Your plastic surgeon will use his/her judgment in deciding when to have them removed. In my practice, this decision is based on the amount of fluid that is accumulating in the drains.

Best wishes.

How long can you have drains in post Tummy Tuck?

Thank you for your question.  Drains are typically removed when there is less than 30cc in the drain for 24 hours.  In most cases, the first drain comes out by day 7 and the second drain by day 14.  Note that the drainage may increase after the first couple of days and the patient moves about more.  Each Board Certified Plastic Surgeon is different.  Please communicate with your Plastic Surgeon your concerns.  Together, you will make a plan.
