How do I switch to Dutasteride after Finasteride?

Hey, I’m 24 years old and have been on Finasteride 1mg/day for 8 months and seen moderate improvement but now I want to switch to Dutasteride 0,5 mg/day since it’s superior. Can I just stop taking Finasteride and start the Dutasteride or do I need to taper off the finasteride as I start Dutasteride? Also does it matter when I take Dutasteride during the day? On an empty stomach or with a meal?

Before you make the jump and switch to dutasteride you’ll want to sit down face to face and go over  all the side effects of dutasteride. I rarely prescribe to young men. However, it it’s decided that that is indeed the right choice for you after discussion with your doctor, you may want to get a baseline sperm count if you plan to father children in the future. Dutasteride can reduce sperm count and some reports have indicated it may not be reversible in all men.

Dutasteride is not approved by the FDA for the treatment of hair loss because it has not been proven safe for this circumstance. There are known sterility issues in men who take this drug
