Do I have melanoma and should I get the pricy operation dermatologist recommends?

Dermatologist Diagnosis was: Early evolving melanoma in situ. The lab report for biopsy reads: At the dermal-epidermal junction there is a poorly- circumscribed proliferation of slightly enlarged melanocytes, singly and in nests. Single melanocytes predominate and are presently confluently. There are scattered single melanocytes in the epidermis above the basal cell layer. In the dermis there are melanophages. This doesn't seem to be melanoma to me but what do I know! Please advise!?
